It's read from the VSS which is in the transmission. Here is a pic from SX Sonic with his hood up, front wheels off the ground and parking brake set in his driveway to illustrate this.

Well that negates everything about the UG performance mode then. You could hit 60 standing still if you were on ice with the front wheels spinning. I could swear that I've never seen the speedo swing wildly if the front wheels are spinning. I guess the only way to get a real 60 number is with a 5th wheel attached to the vehicle that's independent of everything else.

I think the UG is close enough for most of us, the time it takes to get to 60 doesn't change if you spin your wheels a little so a 0-60 run should still be reasonably accurate. Unless you're rocking enough power to keep them spinning up through 60 mph. Or on ice.

I think you are right about the time thing. Unless I spun it all the way to 60, the wheel spin would just be a loss of time to get to 60. It would give you a very quick 30 time but once you started rolling, the 60 would be still be timed from the moment the wheels moved.

I have the UG EM2 Plus.
I would imagine your rig hauls itself around quite smartly. I'd like to get lowering springs on mine and bigger wheels and tires.
But, I'm 62 years old and my wife thinks I'd look kind of goofy sporting around town. Heck, I've only got 30 years invested in her - I'm getting a divorce so I can have my springs and tire and wheels!!!

Well, after much research I found that what makes the huge difference in time has to be the axle ratio as Dogz says.
The RS does have a higher gear ratio compared to the LTZ which is what I own.
I found the following final ratio for the 2015:
RS Manual 4.18
RS Auto 3.53
LTZ Manual 3.65
LTZ Auto 3.23
The higher the ratio the quicker the car off the start. The lower the ratio, higher top speed.
I can't really think any other reason why the LTZ is much slower than the RS considering everything else is the same.
