1.8~2.4 swap/what do i need for FrankenSonic

This 1.8 motor is trash. I have opportunity to buy 2.4 engine and tranny. Anybody done it? What will conversion require?

What i know so far:
Likely will need seperate computers for both to maintain accessories.
Starter may require creative ingenuity: bypass etc ideas?

If i can afford it and its possible im f#&$&$< do this

Save your money in my opinion.
The 1.8L is sufficient for the Sonic and much less issues than the 1.4L turbo also that is used.

The Sonic is not a high performance car.

It is a car you can get long service from if driven reasonably. Not pedal to the metal.

Trying to swap a 2.4 L into it will just get you more headaches, and loss of major $$$$ in my opinion,


This forum has many threads of those wanting to do swaps. If they are successful at all, it isn't for long. They blow the car up and we never hear or see them again. Because they are too shamed to come back and admit their foolish waste of time and money.

If you want the Sonic running, find a low mileage 1.8L, repplace any worn parts, and go wit it.
