2013 LT instrument panel won’t dim

Just bought my second sonic. This is one with 180k and 1.8MT

It has a weird issue where the instrument panel won’t dim. Won’t din when the lights turn on or when you dim with the switch. The. HVAC and steering wheel controls dim with the switch but that’s it.

I did notice someone removed the senor at the end of the dash (the one that blinks red when you lock the car)
Thoughts?

To add some more info, using my autel scanner it shows "uncommanded". I can command the dash to dim doing an active test. So that part works., just can't do it with the switch, and when driving at night it is full brightness

Found the issue. The Ambient light sensor was missing, replaced it and all good
