Hi, if this has already been solved in another thread, please direct me... I am at my wit's end.
I have a 2015 Sonic, 1.8L and it is:
Prior to this, it was losing coolant badly from the thermostat housing assembly gasket, so i replaced it and the throttle body inlet pipe that attaches to it on the top (it broke while removing the housing). Car was running like a dream, but threw a p0171 code and the timing belt alert went off while I was test driving my repair job (I coincidentally hit 100k). Took it to a shop, had it replaced. Ran great for two days and then threw a p0171 code again. Took it back, O2 sensors replaced, still throwing codes. Mechanic ran full vacuum diagnostic, found tiny crack near pcv valve and replaced the valve cover. Still throwing codes. Suggested it might be the ECU after he ran a full vacuum diagnostic again and found no leaks, clean MAF sensor, and refused to charge me for the valve cover because it didn't solve the problem.
I checked the car over, removed purge valve and tested it by wiring it up to a battery and blowing through it to see if it was working. It is. Break booster and hoses seem intact. Air intake hose is old, but no visible damage or wear upon inspection. I visually checked the wiring, and lines. There is a loud hiss coming from the Air Filter Box but I think thats normal air intake.
Took it to Chevy Dealer, they inspected it and came up with it needing new O2 sensors, and a new purge valve. I didnt have enough cash on me AND I had just replaced both sensors, so I refused the service. I'm stuck, and my family's only mode of transportation is not being reliable. New car out of question right now.
Codes being thrown:
I have a 2015 Sonic, 1.8L and it is:
- very clunky/choking stall while idling, especially at red lights, & stop signs
- has a very rough idle that has a rattling sound that comes from behind center dashboard while brake is engaged, and stops when I take my foot off.
- makes a loud buzzing/whirring sound (similar to a loud car club exhaust) near the air intake hose while accelerating.

- p0131
- p0496
- p015B
- p0171 <----Constant, the other 3 come and go each time I clear the codes.
