2017 or 2018 radio replacement

Has anybody with a 2017 or 2018 Sonic replaced the factory headunit with an aftermarket radio? If so, are there any dash kits or steering wheel control units available for these newer models.

Best bet would be to check crutchfield.com. I know they have them for the 2016.

That said, I was curious, and went there, and it said for both a 2017 and 2018 sedan that radio replacement wasn't recommended due to electrical limitations or something. I'm guessing that what that probably means is maybe they don't have harnesses for them yet, or maybe don't have faceplates for them yet. However, you might be able to go for new speakers or something and give the system a pick me up.

Depending on what your trying to do I would suggest getting a Hi to Low converter, retaining your stock head-unit, to run some amps to power your door speakers or sub.

What is your reason for changing your head-unit and maybe I can help more?

I can understand the desire to change. The IOR radio in my 2018 Sonic is a huge step backward as far as radio technology is concerned. However it does handle several other systems in the vehicle with it's color touch screen. OnStar, WiFi, Vehicle Settings for several systems to name but a few. So changing the head will get much more difficult.

Adding to this system is the only real option while your vehicle is in warranty. GM Accessories already has some overpriced options that plug and play.

Thank you for all the feedback. I have already added an entire setup to my sonic. I just need a clean signal now. I added a JL FIX 82. This feeds into a DSP and then on to the amplifiers. The JL Fix helped out a great deal, but its not nearly as clean a signal as a new headunit would put out. I have a 2-way up front with tweeter pods on the a-pillars and a 12" sub in the hatch.
