It was December 2011 when my wife and I made the decision to get an SUV. We had just found out we were expecting our second child, is any other parents will confirm, it was already becoming increasingly difficult to travel "light" with our first.
My wife had a 2006 Cobalt LT that was paid off, while my 2004 Saturn still had a couple $K's to go. It made all the sense in the world to trade in the Saturn.
For the first time in my life, my primary vehicle was a car with an automatic transmission.
It dawned on me very quickly that I was going to hate the situation in which I found myself. For over a decade I had taken for granted something I had quietly grown to love.
I took many opportunities to "test drive" different cars from different manufacturers. I married into a GM family, so I knew I'd never buy a Mazdaspeed3 or Focus ST for fear of castration. So, why not take them out for a spin from a dealership on a test drive? Sure, I may have been wasting the time of Joe Salesman, but really, it was necessary for me. I went on 26 test drives from almost every dealership in mid and southeast Michigan.
Fast forward to Feb 2013. I had been keeping my eye out for a deal I could not pass up. My trusty Autotrader iPhone app got a hit. A 2013 Chevy Sonic, certified with 5300 miles on it, over $4000 under MSRP. It took some convincing and a couple different issues with my wife's car, but the day finally arrived.
Today I brought home this yet-to-be-named Sonic RS.
I drove it 3 hours home and had a smile on my face the whole way. More pictures to come.
