Adios Sonic

After about 5000 miles my wife decided to say adios to our LTZ turbo. The car just wasn't working out quite like we thought it would and the issues with the dealer/Chevy didn't really help boost her confidence in this car for the long term. Plus her commute is changing for the better so we can sacrifice mpg for a larger vehicle. We traded it in on a low mile 2010 Tiguan S.

I still have a $100 gift card for our Chevy dealer that we did not get a chance to use just yet, so I'm going to buy some splash guards or something and throw them up in the classified section. Price will obviously be lower than MSRP for anyone interested.

Anywho...it has been fun. Best of luck to everyone here. I still think the Sonic is a nice car but it really wasn't a good fit for us.

I hope that Tiguan fares better than what the JD Powers and Consumer Reports data would suggest. Those have not done well on customer satisfaction and reliability.

Totally unrelated, but did you know that if you rearrange the letters in TOUaREG, you can spell OUTRAGE. I saw one on the highway the other day where the owner had done that.

I'm not scared of Volkswagens. As long as you treat them correctly they are solid cars for the most part. We have over 100k on that Rabbit we purchased new in 2007 with only a couple very odd hiccups in the last year.

Plus it isn't as if Chevy is free of blunders.

The size of the Sonic really wasn't working out for us like we originally thought it would. We genuinely liked the car and would have made it work but we felt the problems foreshadowed what was to come with that car. Long story and, as SSpeckerwood stated, there are some threads here that elaborate a little bit. Really nothing for you guys to worry about...it was something simple that ended up snowballing due to a careless tech, condescending service manager, and a local GM customer service rep that pretty much blew us off.

What kind of trade in did you get on the Sonic?

It was a swift kick to the testicles in the amount of $14,200. They were really good about working with us on the trade amount and the car was priced well below average (this Honda dealer had been sitting on it for a while). The other dealer we had gone to when we were looking at another used Tiguan or a new 4-door Golf wanted to give us $12k and wasn't looking to work with us on the price of either car.

Despite the bath our car payment didn't increase by much (same loan term but lower interest rate now and we didn't put anything down). Gas bill will even out since my wife's new job is about half the distance of her old one. It hurt a bit financially but mentally both of us are happier.

Hehe...maybe. Need to see how the 6-speed non-DSG auto holds up to extra power.

There be a reason that tiguan sat for so long. Good luck with it. The only VW I'd consider is a GTI. However they are nice cars in general and are safe.
Traded down 190hp and so far no regret, but if its not what you really wanted in the first place, no MPG magic can change that. To each his own....

Heh...my initial reaction was there had to have been something wrong with the car for it to sit so long. Ended up this dealer was in the middle of nowhere and they were initially asking a bit much for it. It popped up in our search after they lowered the price a couple grand to get rid of it. It is still under factory and we had a friend at a local VW dealer run the VIN to confirm its clean bill of health.
