Anyone finding the seats uncomfortable?

The real head scratcher for me is the steering wheel adjustment. All the drivers in my family have it in the fully up position, including my 5'-3" daughter. Why is it adjustable if the full range of adjustment is only useful for people <5'-3"??? Did anyone even try it before they started selling them?

I run the steering wheel all the way down, and all the way back. My GF runs it up and forward about halfway for each. We are both 5'6" and 180 lbs or so. We also use different seat positions, I like to sit most of the way back, with the seat back leaned back a bit, she sits forward and seatback bolt upright (she says this is from learning to drive on ancient Rabbits...I have no idea if that makes any sense) My son, at 6'4" and 280 lbs runs it all the way up and all the way back, with the seat all the way down and back.

The wide range of forward/back, up/down, seat lean and steering wheel positions is what really makes the Sonic so comfortable, IMO. If only the headrest angle and armrest height were similarly adjustable!

Anyone run into the problem of the back of the drivers seat ( where your butt rests) gets a depression. seems like the padding is worn out or what ever holds the padding up is wearing out !! Although Ive looked underneath and everything looks ok !!

These cars come with armrests? I never noticed since I drive with 1 hand on the wheel and one hand on the stick. Even on the highway I do that because there is plenty of slow moving traffic to downshift and pass. Or then there is rush hour where its a constant first...neutral...first...neutral.

About the seats though. I'm 6'0 222lbs and I have no issues with the seats.
However, my father will absolutely not even try to get in my car because of how the seats are and how much space there is to get in the car.

On another note, I saw somebody in here didn't buy the cruze because of its seats.
I just wanted to say I didn't buy one because my foot kept kicking the obd port when I shifted. Before I got out of the car I did peel some wheels and do backwards donuts though.

I think the seats are comfortable for the 20 somethings not this 48 year old !

I am not small guy. I am 5'9" and about 240lbs I have a wide stance.I have large thighs (lots of weight lifting when I was child...That is my 20's).short legs long torso...not a huge belly have a 40 inch waist.
..I waited for the seats to "break in" until they broke me. The bolsters were digging into my thighs so bad it was down right painful. I attempted every up down wheel position...which did nothing for the seats digging in.
I have only owned cars of this size for a very long time...traded in a Versa for this car...
I find the seat is too narrow. This combined with the very narrow toe box just makes it worse. I was in pain and finally after trying several cushions, I had it. Brought it to a car upholsterer and had him work on the seat.
It is somewhat better, but only slightly more tolerable.
The narrow leg space just makes it worse. My leg is up against the center console...hitting at the raised point which digs into my leg. I took off the lower cover of the console which gave a little more toe room.

I drive a lot ! I was driving 160 miles round trip to work and 200 miles round trip to school once a week at a minimum. 500-600 miles a week for awhile.

I own a 1994 suzuki sidekick which I find much more comfortable.

It is still uncomfortable..
...Hoping that the seats have improved on later models so I can do a switch out......

Opel Astra VXR apparently. Probably have to ship them from the UK, wouldnt be cheap. They look awesome though, my RS seats are plenty comfy for me now though!

I find the seatbacks to be great, the seat bases to be a little soft, and the head restraints to be angled too far forward. I've currently got a loaner Cruze while the Sonic is in for a body issue, and while the driving position in the Cruze is too low, the seat shows how it's done; a much firmer seat base, even more lower back support than the already good Sonic, and a head restraint that isn't angled quite so sharply forward. Also, if you want to almost eliminate rear legroom and move the seat way, way back, on the Cruze you can, but on the Sonic you cannot. On a longer drive I sometimes find the left footrest to be about a half inch too close with the Sonic seat all the way back, and I'm just over 6 feet with a 32" inseam. The Cruze could accommodate a driver with a 36" inseam, so long as headroom didn't become an issue; the Sonic, conversely, seems made for shorter legs and longer torsos.

I don't think either the Sonic or Cruze seats would do the job for people who are bigger around, though.

If anyone has a suggestion as to how to firm up the Sonic seat base, I'd be interested. Sort of torn on the head restraint as while I think the Sonic head restraint is too far forward I also think it would work better in a crash than on the Cruze.

This is the problem with these threads: It's all relative.

I'm 6'1" with a 32" inseam and my seat is far from all the way back, I've never felt I had any comfort issues in the ****pit. I have also yet to use the headrests in this car at just over a year.

My father in law to be is 6'5", 34" inseam and 330lbs+. He loves the **** out of his RS. His seat is all the way down and most if not all the way back. Uses the headrests too.

My SO is 5'10" and has legs easily as long or longer than me, and I can barely get into her driver's seat without moving it.

Me- '12 LT Sedan. SO- '13 LTZ Sedan. SO's Father- '13 RS Hatch

I think the purpose was to see if that person was the only one and if he wasnt what options others may have found usefull. Im 5'7" no problems but thats like in the short lane.

Oh I know- I'm not saying anyone is wrong. Heck, I should have said that my SO's brother, identical to her dad but slightly slimmer (still 300#) is barely comfortable at all, and comfortable is stretching it.

I didn't mean to come off as negative or aggressive, just saying that there's a lot of personal differences that makes this a hard discussion to have on equal terms.

uncomfortable drivers seat in Sonic

I just bought a new 2015 Sonic. I love it. But after I drove it a couple of weeks (and adjusted all of the seat positions multiple times), I have a pain in my left leg that starts only when driving. My right leg is perfectly comfortable. I have begun to realize that the side of the driver's seat where my right leg is, has the freedom to compress when I sit. But the side where my left leg is is stopped by the LH track cover, the rigid plastic of which is pressing into my left leg. I actually dread getting into the car, a car that I loved only a couple of weeks ago. I'm tempted to take this track cover off and modify it. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, what did you do?

I didn't see it mentioned here but there is a big difference between the cloth and the leatherette seating. I found the leatherette seat much more comfortable and why I bought the LTZ. The heated seats also go along way to loosening a stiff lower back.

I see a few mention the headrest being uncomfortable, its only that way because you have trained yourself to ride with your seatback slightly to upright over the years. With the seatback slightly tipped back, the headreast should only some into contact with the center of your head at times being driving/riding.

Reality is its not a heat rest, but its designed to capture your neck to stop whiplash. Put your chin to your chest(compressed like an accident) and push back into the seat, you will see that strange headrest shape conforms perfectly to your neck when compressed, just like if you got in accident.

I'm 5' 9", 140lbs and find the seats perfectly comfortable. I also have the seat backs reclined a little so the headrest doesn't come in contact with my head.
The attached armrest is a little high for me but it's better than nothing.

Resting your hand on the shifter when you're not using it will cause unnecessary wear on your transmission. You should NOT put your hand on the shifter unless you're about to shift.

The seating in the Sonic is so vastly superior to the Honda Fit I was driving before, I can't even begin to explain it. In fact, the seating position, together with the telescoping/tilt wheel, are big factors in why I picked the Sonic. Only car I've had that was more comfortable was our '96 Cadillac STS.

Not sure why the Armrest points to the ground. I do sit upright but the angle the armrest dips down is ridiculous. Also they need to reintroduce seats that have the rotating knob to manually crank the seat to the "Just-Right" position. I forget which car I drove that had this. It might have been a Volvo but those few degrees between upright and reclined make a big difference.

The most comfortable seats are in big trucks or vans because the height allows the legs to stretch out. I drove a fairly new GMC van I rented from u-haul and it was heaven.

I considered a racing seat to give my abs a break, or alleviate the constipated feeling from trying to hold yourself in the chair while cornering. But I love my heated seats. Some do come with the rotating adjustment knob though.

Uncomfortable Driver Seat

I'm 5'6" and 150 lbs. I have a new 2017 Sonic Hatchback. I Love my car but cannot find a comfortable driving position. It always feels like the back surface of the driver seat is jabbing me in the right sideof my lower back. Anybody have suggestion? The car has "premium cloth seats". I adjust it differently everyday but nothing seems to get rid of that jabbing sensation. It is driving me a little crazy.

mbavon I'm about the same size as you. 5'7" ~ 155 lbs, and I don't feel anything poking at me while I sit. Try sitting further away with the seat pretty reclined. I find that the most comfortable. Though I doubt you'll stop feeling something poking at you, might just be a defective seat. I know my bed pokes me because a stupid spring sticks out.
