This isn't going to win any awards....:blankface:
It should be noted that I filled up last night with premium (2nd time in a row to flush out the regular ethanol gas...as much as I could. And that fillup comprised a 25+ hwy trip of ~65mph. I did achieve 41mpg on that fillup, but 25miles isn't enough to really tell, what about a longer trek??)
The I-435 highway loop encircles Kansas City. It's a non-stop freeway loop going between Kansas and Missouri. Great place to check your highway mileage.
So, starting from 3.8 miles on the trip ODO I began.
Armed only with the barest of nutrients (1st photo below)
- Temp ~73F, winds light, full tank of premium gas from Quick Trip (as Smit pointed out, most likely ethanol free)..
- Average speed 70 mph
- 88.1 miles at the end of the loop, I filled back up with ~2.5 gallons..
- FAIL... 35.7 mpg. :blankface::blankface::blankface::blankface:
However, not a suprise. At speeds above 70mph the Sonic is beginning to hit the wall..enough that MPG's begin to fall rapidly. ~65mph and lower provides a great chance of 40mpg.
I'm not giving up, the Southern MO part of 435 is 65mph...So I think I'll drive down that section, turn around and come back at the speed limit.
I was hoping to show that without hyper miling, or driving like granny, you can achieve 40+ without too much trouble... I'm close, but 70+ is pushing it (for any car)
But, the ride was very comfortable, the Sirius/XM is awesome, the wind noise was hardly noticeable, and the Sonic can cruize at ~70mph without taking it out of 6th gear...
This car is certainly a candidate for a road trip!
