AWD Conversion

Possible? I thought I read something a while ago on here about a company looking into it.

the trax and encore which are based on the sonic are available in awd, so a conversion would be possible i assume. However I think both are only awd in auto.

Would be cool to see a awd sonic other then a grc car.

What drivetrain would you use? I don't believe there is anything that will just bolt in, but with enough time/money you could make it work. (maybe)

If my memory is correct those cars are longer and wider than the Sonic. They were designed with AWD in mind from the start. I suspect you would find yourself doing a lot of modification to the floor pan, completely redoing the rear suspension of the car, finding a new location for the fuel tank, complete custom exhaust in a new location other than the tunnel it currently sits in, probably have to have new axles made for the rear axle, driveshaft, and at least the passenger side front, and maybe even having to build a new front sub frame since I am sure that the one in our car will not work well with the front "transfer case" and drive shaft to the rear.
