Battery Acid

So I just picked up my car today. Brand new. I've got right around 200 miles on it. It had about 140 when I picked it up. I was looking under the hood and noticed corrosion around the base of the battery, a puddle of liquid under the battery in the bracket that holds the battery in place, and corrosion here and there all the way down to some of the suspension underneath it. I'm going to take it back to the dealership first thing in the morning. Just wondered if anybody else has seen this or I'd anybody has any insight to what this could be?

nothing like a good drop of acid to get the day started.

sorry to hear that. the dealer should take care of it. just make sure they replace the battery and not clean just the terminals.

Also make sure they replace any parts(besides the battery) that were damaged by the acid. Screw them putting fresh paint on.

yeah....pisses me off....bought the car tuesday night. while i was doing all the paper work they were detailing it and getting it ready for me. after everything is done and i'm ready to drive my baby off they lot they tell me, "we just found out there is an update and they need to flash the car so it won't be ready until thursday." i was livid. they put me in a sonic loaner car and gave me 3 free oil changes....thanks a lot....which means partial synthetic oil when i want mobil 1 full synthetic and mobil 1 filters...... i end up getting the car early and picking it up last night and not 2 hours later i pop the hood and notice this....so now i'm in a cruze, hopefully only for today, but we'll see....i'm gonna make sure they replace the parts and try to get a free car cover out of it too since i don't have a garage/covered parking where i live..... but hey, free gas for a couple days.

funny side note: the guy at the loaner desk was givin me the schpeal they give everybody that's takin out a loaner. he said, "the gas tank is full and we just ask that you return it the same." i said, "no, i'm not gonna worry about the gas. whatever gas i used while i have the car is how i am gonna return it." the look on his face was priceless. he didn't know how to respond. haha.

i told them the same thing when they gave me a pos HHR... I won't pay for the gas i use... lol

Had the smame thing happened to me. Day after purchase opened the hood and guess what. Leaky smurfing battery with the bracket all rusted out. Good thing the tray has reservoirs to help stop leakage from reaching below.

Anyhow, got a new battery and dealer gave me a new bracket. But not being able to lift the hood on your new car and show her off the first week is annoying. Who wants to show a car with rust and a leaky battery. How did they not see this before they gave it the once around.

If anything it proves that Delco batteries suck. My GTO has corrosion from the Delco battery on the suspension because of the battery leaking.....and the next one I bought died 2.5yrs later. That'll be an eventual upgrade.

They replaced the battery and cleaned up the battery tray/clamp. Still corrosion looking stuff down some hoses/wires below it and some rust spots on part of the suspension.

That sucks!! My local dealer will replace stuff just off cosmetics, I had a few buttons start to fade in my truck and when they said they would take care of that I gave them a laundry list of cosmetic items to replace and they did at no cost to me, if you came to my dealer with that they would have replaced the parts with acid on them not just cleaned them up
