Black LTZ Turbo Hatch

Hi Folks,

I've been checking out this forum for a while. even when I was looking at the Sonic to see what kinds of reactions there have been. You guys were very helpful.

I purchased a 5 Door LTZ Turbo just under a month ago and I LOVE it. Living outside of Vancouver and doing lots of commuting but I still love getting into it every time. Even officially 'Broke it in' by having 4 guys in the back seat a few weeks ago for a short ride (designated driver).

Getting the windows tinted on Friday, excited about that!

I love black, coming from a Silver Sunfire, I'm having a heck of a time keeping it clean. I've always been obsessive about keeping my car clean... this just might make me crazy.

I've already waxed it.

I wouldn't trade it for another color though.

welcome, I'd recommend getting the ddm works shifter bushings they make a night and day differnence

I haven't waxed mine, I've been afraid ill mess up trying to hand wax it for the first time. But I did buy the Turtle Black Box to use in the future. What do you use when waxing?

i wax in sections and use McGuires brand wax. always do it when paint is cool and never do it in direct sunlight.

i usually do it in the garage since my mini fridge is in there full of beer.
when i've finished, i pull it out and put it in the sunlight to see if i missed any spots.

I was told I'd need to do it in the morning so I figure I'll do that one of these days.

I have a garage, so I should probably use it. I'm always worried when backing out that I'll hit something and mess up a taillight or something so I haven't parked it in there too much. I imagine I will if it ever hails.

there are mirrors on each side of your car and one in the top center of the windshield. there not just there for decoration. lol


also, roll down your windows, turn off your radio and take your time. you'll be fine.

I have the worst judgement when it comes to gauging me lining up backwards into anything. Tried parking backwards a few times (thought this would be better than parking front because you're constantly looking out and more likely to be aware of other people and not accidentally back into someone). But I tend to park crooked no matter how slowly I do it. I just park slowly crooked.

I think I just keep over correcting rather than ignoring the mirrors. I use the mirrors and look backwards as well but I think I'm so worried about it, Mess it up. I've since gone back to parking front end in.

Best way to practice is going into a empty parking lot and backing into stalls. Drive in reverse a bit as well. Practice makes perfect.

You can do it whenever you feel motivated to do it. Pecker's advice to do it in the garage (or on a cloudy day, for that matter) is right on. However, the only bad thing about doing it in the garage is limited ventilation. You can work up a sweat fast by doing a lot of rubbing (no, not that kind of rubbing) in a warm garage. Being outside, at least you might have a good breeze. So I suppose in that case, the morning probably would be better due to it being cooler. Avoiding the sun when waxing is a good thing to remember.

compressed air anywhere in the shop
3- 220 plugs.
110 plugs on every stud (16" centers)
3 work benches
1 desk
shelves gallore
file cabinets for all my manuals
lighting everywhere.
should i keep going on?

On my last car I used the Turtle Wax Black Ice and it did a good job. It also stated you could do it in the sun so I liked that since I have limited space to do the car.

However, for the Sonic I bought Mothers California Carnuba wax. Someone somewhere along the line told me that if you're not using a carnuba wax you're wasting your time. I'm not inclined in this area but I thought it couldn't hurt.

It looks even better now with the wax job. I want to wax it again!

Downside? My hand keeps slipping off the handle when I'm getting in the car because it's so slick now from the wax.

Yeah I just did a full detail and wash on my car and I sweated buckets ): I didn't think it would get that hot but yeah. I think I'll post pics of how it turned out later. I didn't wax it because car is still new (only 500 miles) and so I don't think it needs another coat of wax yet, just usual cleaning and washing.
