Boost gauge

Well I know that. I'm curious as to what kind of boost MY sonic is capable of at it's highest point. I'm familiar with boost gauges in that they do not stay at one spot all the time...

Unless I misunderstood and you mean that all Sonics will fluctuate and not all have similar boost readings.

Feet above sea level, temperature and humidity will have their say. So even an individual Sonic may peak at different levels on different days.

Without modifying engine internals, fuel pump, and injectors, Vince Geglia speculates around 22 pounds reliably. There are quite a few people running at that level and seem to be holding up well. He has a FB page and a second web site (in cooperation with WOT) where the answer to your question could be found. Just google Trifecta Performance than go to the links he has there.

I'm running 22. 10,xxx miles later, still no problems. Granted, it's not 100,000 miles, but that should give some input.

well like i said thats what he said and like i said i was sceptical on it... i kno the supercharged grand prixs run 7-8lbs depending on the day and like already stated the camaros run 9. but i am new to turbos ive alwase been a supercharger fan so i kno more about them and not so much on the turbos

I havent noticed a difference in my fuel economy knowing what psi I am pushing at that given moment. It may have hurt it, as I am constantly trying to hit max psi in various driving conditions.

My boost gauge is a graph with a line representing the last 10 seconds. If you try to keep the line as smooth as possible while at cruise, then you will get better gas mileage.

Quite happy, even though it does interfere with the ability of OnStar to monitor the diagnostics.

When something is plugged into the OBDii port, reports indicate OnStar can not pick up the information. I count that as a good albeit unintended consequence of using UltraGauge type products.

I was looking at making a dash pod like I had on my WRX with 3 gauges, but with price and awesome install thread already out there it will be $70 well spent.

boost/vacuum line

Does anyone know for sure what line to hook the gauge into?

I have a boost gauge arriving in a few days and can`t wait to install it. What line is best to tie in to? I see the short curved plastic line behind the throttle body. (is that the one that should be used?)

Boost Gauge and Pod Installed on Dash

So, I went and installed this awesome Glowshift Vacuum/Boost Gauge. I`ll try and provide some of my installation steps and tips as well. It was a lengthy process and I can`t explain everything. The wiring is basically up to you and although i did a good job with it, my wiring was border-line sloppy. lol.

PREPARATION and Suggested parts etc.

Elec tape
Soldering Equip.
Heat shrink
Zip Ties
Extra Vacuum line (I needed some 5/32 and 3/8 i think)
Hose Clamps for the hose (if you can find some small enough)
Elec. Connectors

PREP

1. Disconnect Battery (for wiring and airbag safety)

2. Carefully remove Wipers and Windshield Cowling. (the cowling will have 4 plastic pushpins and a 10mm screw in its center covered with a plastic cover.

3. Remove lower steering wheel panel (The one with the headlight switch) It has four screws and will then pull out. Remove fuse access cover

4. Remove driver side A-Pillar (Has speaker connector and airbag connector on back that must be disconnected to remove.)

Running the Gauge Vacuum Hose

1. After removing the Windshield Cowling, Look by the driver side wiper arm. Down by the Motor arm, you should see the hood release cable coming thru the firewall right below where you removed the cowling. Above that cable is a rubber plug in the firewall. I used this for my hose passage.

2. This part is tricky! First, pull the rubber plug out.
I used a 2 ft long thick, zip tie to push thru the hole. If done right, the end will be visible in the car behing the clutch pedal. Now you can easily pull the hose out thru the hole. You must first drop the hose down thru the A-Pillar section and then connect the hose end to the zip tie.

3. Make a hole thru the rubber plug to use it as a grommet and put it back in place when finished running the hose.

4.Route the hose along the lower cowling and protect the hose from sharp edges with zip ties or hose coverings.

5. I drilled a hole thru the lower cowling perpendicular to the left edge of the engine to bring the hose into the engine bay.

6. The hose you must connect to is the thin plastic line running along the left edge of the engine.


I was pleased with the appearence of the finished result. I have yet to connect the dimming wire for the gauge. Its almost blinding bright at night and makes me nearly go crosseyed!

I have boost readings up to 15 psi sometimes. 13 or 14 is usually the max so far.

Also, I must mention that i had to knotch a piece out of the lower part of the A-Pillar by the Dash to prevent Pinching of the hose. Also, Completely irrelevant, I notice a strange photograhic error in my Pic. It shows the gauge pod sitting on brick red part of dash, but it`s actually black.

What I want to know is whether Chevy has brain 1 in their head and while trying to "capture the youth market" realizes they're trying to mesmerize young/tuner kids and follows suit.

I mean, kick-flips, skydives, etc and no boost gauge to fascinate?

Chevy, you're putting in a nice 7" display, how about giving us an included app that shows all the "cool" stats on the car at once?
Nice digital boost gauge while cruising, maybe a realtime mpg readout?
You don't even have to make anything new, just have someone write some lines of code and include it at delivery.

(Don't get me wrong, I'd rather have it in the cluster but it'd likely take a revised cluster screen, Ie: $)
