BOV question

so I have tried researching this but I cant seem to find an answer (I am new to the turbo world). I have a 2013 Sonic RS and want to do a for atmospheric BOV. I love the sound of blow off valves but will it make the noise when I am just driving around town shifting at 2,500-3,000 rpms or just at high RPM shifts?

Yes and no. It will still be moderately audible during normal shifting at 3000rpm, but it will hardly be the aggressive pshhhhh that you'll get when you shift at higher RPMs.

You will have a hard time pretending like it's not there in front of your wife or girlfriend, if that's why you're asking.

Mine goes off particularly loud when I'm feathering reverse out of my driveway.

Also....... You will need to have a ECP enabled tune.

And just a thought, if you're not ready to tune, an intake will give you a fairly satisfying amount of *pshh*

But by all means, go whole hog if that's what you crave! The intake is not as loud as a BOV, but I still turn heads with my *pshh*.

It's not that I'm trying to hide it, I am just afraid it will be to loud and ill get annoyed during city driving. And I have already been planning on a trifecta tune and exhaust in January. I just ordered my intake so we will just see if I want more noise

Not sure I wanna go that far, but I had a forge BOV and sold it.. Urgh. I'll still wait a while.

I got tired of the Forge Atmospheric BPV and was way happier with an intake and the Forge BPV. I do a lot of city driving/stop and go traffic and I got tired of hearing it all the time. If you want the noise and are worried about it being "to loud" I would just start with an intake and then go from there.

What's the bdifference between the forge atmospheric BPV and the forge BPV? And is there even a performance change in adding either one or is it more just for sound

The Forge BPV's replace the stock BPV in its factory location, one vents to open air (atmospheric) and requires a tune w/ ECP (Trifecta is the only one tuning for BOV's) and you get that loud vent everyone likes and the other recirculates as the BPV was designed to do, you just get a crisper vent through an aftermarket intake (or RNI). Until you start pushing large amounts of boost (and the tuned 22 psi isn't enough) you will only get a sound change and this is the same for the inline BOV's. What you do get with Forge is a solid billet aluminum valve that takes no modification to fit the turbo vs the plastic capped and rubber diaphragm of the stock BPV which was the biggest reason I swapped them out. If you chose an inline BOV you're going to have to cut up your charge tube or buy a aluminum charge tube from DDM (I think MPFab has one now as well) with a flange for the BOV.

I've had my atmospheric bov on for idk maybe 6-8 months. And all my miles are in city for the most part, and I never get sick of the sound.

Yes. Because the turbo is so small it makes boost backing out of a parking spot... So installing a noise maker is a bit like drawings attention to your 3" dick.

The overpowering desire to do this (either of those things, actually) is caused by a debilitating mental condition know as "K03 syndrome". A contagious infection running rampant among the very impressionable members of the Volkswagon scene.
