Is it not just like others where a flat head will lift the tab to pull it apart? Do you have a pic? (I have to admit I haven't changed this on a Sonic but I've done it on at least a half dozen other cars)
I'm about to replace this part, and also need some information on how to get the wiring harness off. These connectors are VERY fragile and easily broken. I can't tell by looking at it how it works.
There is a very small blue slide lock on the Purge Solenoid Valve electric connector I just replaced one 4 months ago.
Note:- - - people never say WHICH engine they have or put it into their signature. So - - - the 1.4L solenod valve is slightly different than the one on the 1.8L engine. So. . . do your own leg work on that.
I tried a small jewelers screw driver to slide it off and it broke on half. So I pried the rest of it out.
That thing is not needed, because you also have to depress a tab on that connector. That little blue part just locks the tab so you can not press it to release it. The connector stays on fine without it.
The hose connection is another matter. It has a release, but the connector seems to stick on tightly so you have to twist and turn it some gently while pulling and it will eventually release. I think there is an O-ring inside the hose connector and it takes a set and sticks to the valve connection point after time.
Really, over all very easy.
Forget the little "bluey" plastic electric connector thing. .
Here is a Youtube showing how to do it. NOTICE. . .. at minute 1:02, the "blue" lock thingy on the electrical connector is already gone. . . lol
Has anyone deleted their purge valve or entire EVAP system? Emissions aside (since we dont have emissions testing here) will there be any consequences on fuel economy and such?
My purge valve was replaced in december and its acting up again and just want it gone.
Not sure how you would do it on a car. I had an Italian scooter awhile back with a single-cylinder 460 cc engine. That was a very fast scooter....
The evap parts were under the seat taking up trunk space. A lot of owners removed these parts and capped the ends to get better storage and slightly better performance running US fuel.
It may be possible on a Sonic, but I'm not sure how you would do it, and it would probably trip the CEL light.
Just replaced this part on my Sonic. But when I removed the red slide clip on that hose, it flew off and I can't find it anywhere [emoji2361]. Does anyone know where I might be able to order that? Or would something else work for that?
