Can't Turn Traction (TCS) Off

So I'm having a curious problem... I can't turn my traction control off. The button does not respond to my presses. I can't hold it and get stability management to turn off either. Is there a fuse in this system or did the switch die on me? My 30lb dog occasionally steps on the switch, but it never caused an issue before. The child safety lock button still works.

Interesting. I'd start checking possibly related fuses in the cabin fuse box and see if anything odd can be spotted there. Otherwise, I'd probably take out the center column and see if the switch wiring got loose or something.

Ever spill any liquids when placing drinks in the cup holder?? Maybe it is shorted out....

I always thought those buttons were in a bad spot for cup condensation or spills on drinks with no lids.

Nope, no catastrophic spills yet. But I agree, the switches are in a strange place.

I thought this might be the case as well, but this has been happening over the course of a few days now.

I have done some wiring in that area of the car and the connections are certainly not in a good place with the drink holder being there. I believe the fuse for tc and stability is the very top left two fuses. If I remember correctly.

Checked this and didn't see any fuses for TCS or stability.

This is happening with my wife's encore. I turned it off but it came back on a couple mins later and than it wouldn't turn off.


If I die, bury me in my truck, because it's never been in a hole it can't get out of!

Mine did that once on my RS hatch I do believe I held down the button for a few minutes and It like reset itself and worked again !

There's a fuse under the hood which controls TC, SC and ABS, but if you unplug that fuse you don't get this "I can't get it to respond" condition, instead all three are off and there are warning lights that tell you so. I guess there could be a different fuse that controls the ability to switch the button on or off, but it seems very unlikely to me.

The button does not fully turn off the system. TCS and stability will still kick in if you start to get too far out of control, based on what the computers wants to see. Holding the button down for more than 30 seconds will throw it into default mode until the next key cycle. The default mode is the same as normal driving where you dont try to turn it off.

Yes, TC off and SCS off from the button are not really really off... but they are "don't kick in unless I get really seriously outside normal parameters" while the default is "please kill me if I try to gun it so I can slip into fast moving heavy traffic". Switch off mode isn't life threatening, it only stops you having fun in icy parking lots or doing hardcore drifting stunts. For that, pulling the fuse is the answer.

As far as I can tell, OP has been using the switch off function and been happy with it, but his switch has stopped working, and has not responded to turning the car off and back on.

Tried unplugging the battery for a few minutes? I suspect a short or broken wire, but if it's something in the software/firmware, this might reset the system where just turning the car off is not.

TCS has left me staring out a side window at a car coming, wondering if the damn thing will start moving again or not. It is an overly aggressive system that really needs to be dialed back.

My wife turned the tec off once when putting soda in the cup holder. I saw the light come on and did not know what it was at first, thought it was it was a col. They could have place them on the dash under the radio, just make the power lock buttons smaller.
