Car has a stutter at times

Hey yall,
It's been awhile since I've been on here, but I've recently started having an issue with my car. Over the past 3 months, my car has had this occasional stutter(as I call it) when I get on the gas. From what I've noticed it seems to happen when it is in the low end on the tac, around 1800rpms or less, and you dont really notice it until you are in 4th gear or higher. I've done some playing around on manual mode to figure that much out.

A couple of months before this issue came about, I did have the valve cover replaced due to a leak which did fox the problem i was having then. I have also hooked it up to it up to a slightly more advanced code reader/simple car computer that let me read the data in real time and didn't notice anything with the fuel system or any misfires that would cause this issue. I was not, however able to read what the tranny was doing as I was driving (computer wouldn't read it).

So I have no idea what it could be. Has anyone else ran into this issue?

Btw: My sonic is 2012 hatchback 1.8 motor with 134xxx miles on it.

Could be a misfire. I had this same issue on my sonic after I changed my spark plugs and it turned out that I had some corrosion on the coil pack on cylinder #4. This was with the 1.4 turbo though.

These transmissions are junk. And you aren’t going to fix the problem by changing spark plugs or the coil pack. If you research that year and trans, you’ll find that it simply has bad programming and no fluid change/flush or spark plug change will fix that.

Similar issues for months now

I have the same as you, a maybe 1000 more miles or so and have been having this issue for a while now. It stutters/hesitates when accelerating, typically as I am going from 40-50. It likes the higher end and wants to stay there, a lot of slowing and accelerating and it does it again. It's also starting jerking while idling. More recently it's throwing knock/ping codes. I have taken it to the dealer several times and not only can they not recreate it (always the case it seems) they can't see anything wrong with it. Replaced spark plugs and coil pack last year, and valve cover gasket 6 months ago or so. I pretty much got told unless I want to throw parts at it, to wait until it gets worse and bring it back. And that it's most likely going to end up being a major engine repair when the time comes. A few times its so bad and in succession that I almost pulled off the road in rush hour traffic. I hope you find the issue, I would be interested to hear it.
