Car maintenance

I just got a used Sonic. The mileage is in between 24,000-36,000. I'm not good at car. I have some questions:

1>If the car (like mine) is still in warranty, should I always do the maintenance (engine oil refill, car wiper blades change, Windshield washer fluid refills) in the Chevy official store? The price there is much more expensive than other independent garages? My friend recommends me to do this. Why?

2>I don't drive it often. The recommendation for engine oil change is 6 months or 5000 miles, which comes first. I only drove 2000 miles during the past 6 months? Should I change it or wait longer time?

If it is under warranty, always follow the recommended intervals with receipts from the work or you will lose your warranty. You can use an independent garage just make sure they are certified to be doing the work and keep your receipts
