Cel: P0455?

So I've been getting a CEL code of P0455 for about a month and a half now. The code is defined as: "Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected
(gross leak)". I've had the dealer look at it each time it's come on and this is what they've been saying: "It's the gas cap not being put on correctly." I'm assuming at this point they've only been clearing the code and nothing more.

Here's how the process happens after I get the car back: I drive around fairly respectably for a couple days. If I put gas in in the first few days, no CEL. On the 4th or 5th day the CEL with the P0455 code is back. I have tried to put the gas cap on several different ways with no change.

So here is my question to SOF: Has anyone had this problem before? if so, how was it fixed?

The car only has 1700 miles on her...

I had this problem with a Suburban and had to replace the gas cap.

Just the gas cap? That's it? That seems horribly simple. Lol jk. Well I'm giving the dealer on more shot. If they don't fix it, I'll get a new gas cap. Thanks bud

So I talked to the dealer a little bit ago and the Service Adviser think that it could be the fuel tank. He's not 100% yet, jus stated that he recently had to replace a fuel tank on another sonic and thought that could be the same issue with mine.

Might be time to try another dealer. A large evap leak is easily found by doing a smoke test. After the second time you went back they should have done something other than basically tell you that you don't know how to work a gas cap.

I agree. And I did go to a different dealer. First dealer is in the town I live in. The second dealer is in the next town over. According to dealer 2, dealer 1 only logged my first visit into the gm warranty database. Dealer 2 did a pressure test and found that the gas cap was in fact the problem. The gad cap was cracked. That kinda worries me seeing that it can only go so tight and it's got a leash preventing it from dropping. Either way though, dealer 2 replaced the gas cap and hopefully that will be the end of this issue.
