Changed tires, now TPMS not on?

So I put on my summer rims which have TPMS in them and took of the winters which also have TPMS.

But now my tire light came on. I checked my onstar app and saw the photo below.

How do I get my sonic to recognize the new tires??

Check the owners manual. I never bother to learn since I run without TPMS in the wheels for 3/4 of the year.

Need a TPMS tool I believe. Tire store can do it for you. Manual calls out steps for tire learn, but that involves the tool. Who mounted the tires for you?

I did it myself. I figured it looks for TPMS and it'd find it. Wasnt aware it needed them specifically in the tire. Damn.

Every tpms has its own "ID" and your car needs to know them. If you bought more and installed them into your summer rims, you need to go to a tire store and have them programmed.

I read something online but can't figure it out. Maybe someone can help?

Something along the lines of the "tire learn" function in the menu and inflate/deflate tires?

I have a ATEQ. Most good tire shops will pair your new set for ~$10.

The sensors sometime need to be woke up. The ATEQ can wake them and pair them.

I have an electronic TPMS reset tool that I purchased, so I can reset the wheel position after rotation, and summer/winter changeover. If a set of wheels are matched to your vehicle, and you change to another set of wheels; the TPMS warning lamp will illuminate until those wheels are matched to the vehicle. It cannot be done by adding or releasing air pressure as some older vehicles. It also won't reset itself by driving the vehicle as some other manufacturers do.

They did - until you changed to the winter tires. Now the car "knows" the winter tire's TPMS sensors. They just need them reset again - a 5 minute job with the tool.

Warning to all - I put some cheap red aluminum valve stem covers on my sonic a few months ago and now they are fused onto the stems. Stick with the plastic cheapie covers. I was reminded of this with the mention of the sensors. I may have to have mine replaced after they wrench off the caps.

should be plastic, not metal with TPMS's so you don't cause issues...

I am going to install a set on my next set of wheels. They should improve the dynamic balance and reduce a small amount of unsprung weight/rotational mass. If they work out, I will install them on all of wheels going forward.

Alright thread back on track now...

Looked around online and found TPMS reset tools are approx CAD $110.
So I called my dealership and apparently I just need to pull in they will rest for me and I leave.

No charge.

If not then buy the $80 dollar tool so you can rotate your tires yourself and what not. I'd let you borrow mine but you're in Canada and I'm all the way down in Texas.
