Well I figured I'd throw this post up.
For all I know someone else here is interested in these, and if not maybe it'll explain my avatar. I have two refrigerators I'm restoring, a 1933 GE monitor top and a 1934 GE monitor top.
Both use Methyl formate as a refrigerant and both seem to work, however the 1934 model may need to be bled as I suspect it has a build up of non-condensibles.
Some pictures of the 1933 monitor top
When I got it.
Sanding rust off of the bottom and under the porcelain panels. The cable sticking out is for the foot pedal to pop the door open.
Sandblasted and primed with a construction grade brown primer (poor choice)
Here is a picture of the primed top sitting on its stainless steel evaporator. The 1934 unit can be seen in the backround, poor thing was painted an ugly copper color. That one will be next to be stripped and painted bright white.
First coat of epoxy white.
Fifth and final coat but poor white balance in photo.
Better white balance and more of what the color looks like
The cabinet in peices waiting to be finished and put back together.
A friend nickel plated the racks for me. Some examples, though all original racks are present and done
What the finished project will look like. Its almost there but I need to do some more painting along the edges of the legs and what not.
And finally the 1934 which I have not touched at all. I bought original racks for it and an original evaporator glass tray but other than buying materials I've done nothing yet. This ones going to need a lot of work to look like new again.
