I've just noticed a Class Action Lawsuit;
www.gmignitionswitcheconomicsettlement.com/
Trouble is, it's close to closing and it doesn't include the Sonic, or Spark for that matter. The SONIC SHOULD be a part of it and I'll explain why.
I had the same, exact issue as this NHTSA Recall No. 14v346.
I think I mentioned it here, in a separate thread too. It wasn't my knee that hit the FOB, but it was sticking out so far that when I went to use my wipers, I knocked it enough to turn the car off. If I had been driving and gotten hit, the airbag wouldn't have deployed. If I had been driving and hit it a little harder, the steering wheel would have locked up.
I went to the local dealer and complained. They never mentioned an actual recall for the Camaro's but they did tell me that they did make Keys for the Camaro without the FOB, that were shorter. They told me I could Purchase a set for $80.00 and "See if they work". They did.
I don't think I can file an objection to this Class Action because no where does it mention the Sonic, although, as I said, it's the same, exact issue the Camaro Recall states.
I also doubt they would want to hold up this current class action to tack on more, and probably couldn't because there was no recall specifically for the Sonic.
I do think I am going to look into this and see if a NEW Class Action can be started for the Sonic, and all other cars with the same ignition set-up they decided to ignore. I do remember filing with the NHTSA about the issue though. I think (getting old and forgetful). I hope I can find the info.
When it happened to me, it scared the crap out of me. I did buy the keys. I do worry that it's just a matter of time, or it's already caused a crash. I should at least get the cost of the keys back
Has anyone else accidentally knocked the FOB enough to turn the car off while it was running?
