Cost of a full paint job?

Anyone know what the average professional paintjob would cost on a car like ours? I want to get my Sonic sprayed matte black instead of the orange and I'm willing to spend a few thousand for it - but people tell me door jams would be orange still- they don't paint these?

I would find the top three paint shops in your area and go get a quote from each, pulling the doors and hood to have no orange left will cost a bit more though.

Just throwing out there you can plastidip it... I believe its not too much...and if you ever want it back orange or are gonna sell it you can take it off.... If i change my car color id go with that

I may even go with gloss black it looks to be a bit cheaper

They make a flat or matte clear coat that gives the look you want as well.

A good vinyl wrap will give you the desired outside look while being completely reversible and not making the car look like an accident repaint victim. If you ever decide to get rid of the car you can remove the vinyl and have perfect paint underneath also.

Yeah my friend did their $299 job on his baby blue Thunderbird and he didn't realize till he picked the car up that when he opened the doors it would be baby blue still.

Maaco - dear god.

I have heard various numbers thrown around. The thing is this - a repainted car is harder to sell and it's usually obvious when a car's been repainted. Unless, that is, you spend really big money to get it done, which I think isn't worth it. Basically, a quality paintjob will require the car to be fully stripped before being painted. Without that, you'll see the old paint in the engine bay, underneath the carpets - etc. That would bother me to no end, because it's not quality work.

So, for quality work, which would involve stripping the car fully before painting, you're looking at way over 5 grand.

7-10 grand based on what Corvette owners report. And that is not changing the color, that is repainting to get rid of orange peel etc.

I suspect an excellent but not perfect paint would be around 3K and the closer one gets to a perfect job the closer one gets to 10K, which I suspect would give one a show car quality result.

Yes. The depreciation hit is going to be far less than a paint job that would equal in quality to that of factory.

Any reputable shop doing a color change will paint door jambs and all.

I work in a body shop and am co-owner of a separate restoration shop. The boss of the body shop I work for doesn't like to do paint jobs because he could make more doing insurance jobs for the amount of time that goes into a paint job. Real body shops like his don't like to do paint jobs but they will if work is slack, and they'll usually do them for around $3500 for a decent job. At the restoration shop, we take the time to do all-over paint jobs and you pay for that time and dedication and you get a superb paint job... however, we're not too picky. If you come to us with a grand and want some paint slapped on an old rusted out truck dents and all, we won't turn you down. Just don't tell people who painted it... :banana:

MAACO? what are you crazy?

no they wont paint the jambs, but hey will paint your windows and mouldings and tires, they don't mask anything!!!!!. each paintjob comes with a free box of razor blades to scrape the paint off the windows and a free gallon of laquer thinner to clean the paint off the tires.
