I considered calling the cops, but remember this is Oakland. The police actually have a policy where that won't even come unless there is an immediate threat of violence. Instead, they may send a case worker within a day or two.

Secondly, I'm careful not to become adversarial with these neighbors. They could really make our lives a living hell if they decided to. Instead I chose to reason with the guy and basically put him on notice that I won't tolerate it passed a couple days. So he's either gonna have to take it somewhere else or expect action from me.

He acted like he didn't realize it was bothering anyone, apologized profusely, and even offered to shoot me $500 for the inconvenience. That REALLY pissed me off. I found it very insulting. Like I'm gonna just sell my household's well being for $500.

What does putting him on notice accomplish? If he continues, you're back as square 1 and in the same predicament you just mentioned. Taking action could put you at risk, because then, as you mentioned, you'd be adversarial with the neighbors.

I wouldn't take his money, either. Absolutely agreed.

We figured out the issue, it seems. The videos were moved from Google's servers to YouTube when Google acquired YouTube. The vids are still there (on YouTube now), but under a private account. So the Admin will need to go in and update the account settings and subsequently links to make them work again.

Sorry to hear about that mess Preloaders, deff not cool for that guy to be in a residential neighborhood pullin that kinda ****. If I were him I'd of went to a barn or shack in the burbs to do my trimming to avoid such obviousness neglect of not only your families well being but also common sense and curiosity.

I realize my talking to him probably won't invoke change, but I'm old school and I feel like I owe another man at least one opportunity to make things right. I wasn't always the most considerate person, and if someone called the cops on me without at least a consultation first, I would have sworn to avenge myself.

At least this way if I do have to call the police, he can't be upset about not being warned. I've lived next to him for 3 years now, and I don't think he is intrinsically a "bad" person. He is just grossly inconsiderate. So I'm giving him the chance to consider.

In my opinion Preloader did the right thing and seriously ahtoxa when you don't live in an apartment pissing off your neighbors is usually a bad idea. It's usually a bad idea even in a temporary place such as an apartment, but far worse in a house.


I think Preloader has us all trumped when it comes to dealing with things like this.


BTW, pissing off your neighbors would be considered a "dumb game" by most.

I have an a-hole neighbor that I just avoid. Its not worth the potential issues. I cant just pack up and move when my lease term is up.

If a bunch of weed plants appeared there, I might have a big enough reason to actually talk to them. It would be along the lines of, it needs to go or we will have a problem.

Well that is a big part of it. It's not like I can just put up with it until they move. They own their house. We own ours. I don't feel the need to ever be good friends with them, but I damn sure don't want to be enemies. I've lived in much worse neighborhoods, but maybe that's why this bothers me so much. I thought when we bought our home that we were taking a big assurance in not having to deal with this kind of bafoonery.

My wife and I both have day jobs. So they would have the advantage in a battle.



@mitdr, I've been using my imagination on what could be used to taint their product. That would be the most satisfying damage I could do. But unfortunately it's not a reasonable path.

Unfortunately anything that happens, regardless of who does it, you will probably be blamed since you had a talk with them.

Tainting the product would probably be the most satisfying route, but I suspect it would come with unfortunate consequences.

I am sure a call to the DEA could halt the operation, but once again it puts you at risk. If they persist in the operation maybe a giant sign that points toward their house and states that the weed is at that house?? Might make them think about it some.

Perhaps, perhaps... I can certainly see the points Pre and you are making. I don't really know how I'd react unless I was in the same situation with all of the same variables, of which there are many.

That is also a possibility. Perhaps it's likely that having a weed farm next door simply doesn't have a long-term positive outcome no matter how the matter is approached.

The other factor is how "420 friendly" our area is. There is literally 3 shops downtown where you can walk in for an "evaluation" and walk out with a medical marijuana card. With that card you are permitted to grow 99 plants.

I wouldn't be surprised if the cops wouldn't even be interested in coming if I called about marijuana activity. And as far as I have seen he is not nickel and diming it to buyers so busting him for distribution would be more involved.

Just gonna have to see if the activity calms down after our little discussion. I'll keep y'all posted.
