As far as engines go, one of my favorite engines for its durability is the Jeep Cherokee's 4.0 inline 6. The original Cherokee, not the current one.

Those things are damn solid. Owned one with 224k miles on it, which I used as a winter beater, and that thing was outstanding. Coupled with the Asin AX-15 5-speed manual trans, it made for a great drivetrain. Oh, and the Chrysler 8.25" rear was great, too.

I miss my old Cherokee. It was a tank.

The Cherokee classic would be what you are referring to. Square body brick shaped. One of my favorite .....well only later model Chrysler

Engine has 170k on it and it has a couple lifter ticks but runs good.

My 1992 4 bolt main SBC 350 had 225K when I traded the truck in.
Had been developing a main bearing knock for a year or so and it was to the point it was starting to barely do it hot idling with the A/C on. Before that it knocked a few times only on startup when cold.

I blame that on the guy who owned it for the first 170,000 miles as he is very hard on things both maintenance and use wise. He also did a lot of towing with it, I think he had a 6000lb trailer he pulled with it all the time.

Me, I changed the oil a lot, but I had a habit of holding it almost floored and shifting at 3500rpm. Like, damn near everytime I took off. That probably wasn't the nicest thing for it either from 170K - 225K.

My dad has a 94 blazer sport k1500 260k miles on it 4 bolt 350. Trans went last month. Motor still runs ok smokes a bit but he's planning on towing a 22+ foot trailer behind it to travel the US. We're gonna pick up a performance long block from mabbco. Had one before they are decent motors / people. Also half the price of companies local to me for a similar build.

I was always told only the 2500 series had 4 bolt mains and that the 1500 series had 2 bolt?

Yeah it's original. I guess it's possible it's a 2 bolt, never actually looked just assumed it was a truck motor so it was a 4bolt.

Pretty sure it's a 2.
I had a friend that had almost the same truck as mine except his was a C1500 and it was a 2 bolt 350.

I believe only 2500 and 3500? got 4 bolt mains and to be honest, I have no idea how that makes sense.

I am officially in love with the upcoming Focus RS. Too bad that it's highly unlikely that I'll be able to justify the price of it in any foreseeable future, but that car is just phenomenal.

It would make an ultimate commuter and fun car for me. No compromises.

Meh like I said in another thread I don't think it's gonna sell that well. It's a really awesome car, but when it comes down to it it's still a focus. From the reviews of the interior it's nothing special other than the seats. I mean I expect it to be 35-40k so at what point do you say I'd rather have an ats? And a lot of the people buying these types of cars but the wrx and have high brand loyalty. That being said it's an awesome rally car.

To someone that's into that market, but again people who own those two tend to have a lot of brand loyalty. I don't know, unless I'm gonna rally I'm going with a car that's nicer all the way around for that price. I mean when u figure the price will be comparable to an ats or Chevy ss or even a bmw (I think it's m230?) unless your gonna race it a lot it's not worth the money. You could buy a new mustang with a turbo that's gonna be cheaper and not make that much less hp.

I really like the idea of the rs but for me to be interested it would need to be right at or below $30k which I don't think we will see.

Yes, WRXs have a following, but consider how huge the RS has been in Europe and consider RS's rally heritage. Those two factors are likely to attract a lot of buyers. WRX STI is no different and with a very similar heritage. It's a car that's got the same intentions as the RS and was built with the same demographic in mind. I bet you that the RS will cost similarly to STI.

Also consider that the Golf R is also a direct competitor, and it's a hot hatch that also sells well.

RS won't be a huge numbers seller, but it's not supposed to be. It's going to be very competitive with STI, EVO and the Golf R, not only in price, but also in performance.

It's a healthy market.

By the way, a Mustang with a turbo is going to be a niche thing.

All the secretaries and hair dressers will continue to buy a base V6 and all the guys that want performance will buy the V8. In my opinion, there's little room for a turbo Mustang right now. Yes, I know that they can and will be modded, but having read a few reviews, most journalists weren't thrilled with turbo motor.

I wouldn't buy a turbo-4 Mustang.

Lastly, while I may lust after a Focus RS, a Fiesta ST is a far more practical choice for me, mainly because I can't justify the cost increase even going to a Focus ST.

I'm still more than a year away (probably two years) from getting into a new car, but the Fiesta ST is a very, very strong contender. By that time there will be good used deals to be had.

One thing for sure - I won't buy another new car again. While I knew what I was facing at time of purchase, I do not want to eat the steep depreciation again.

OMG NEW (to us) awd platform+turboz??!?! WANT!!!!%^#%$ I think will be most common reaction to the new focus.
subaru guys want a hatch.... period. So if subaru doesn't bring it back (at least one variant till '15 i believe) i think people will cross over. Ken Block did it bruh... why can't I??


The golf has its own following so it should do ok, not in rally tho (19" rimz??)
