The Cherokee classic would be what you are referring to. Square body brick shaped. One of my favorite .....well only later model ChryslerAs far as engines go, one of my favorite engines for its durability is the Jeep Cherokee's 4.0 inline 6. The original Cherokee, not the current one.
Those things are damn solid. Owned one with 224k miles on it, which I used as a winter beater, and that thing was outstanding. Coupled with the Asin AX-15 5-speed manual trans, it made for a great drivetrain. Oh, and the Chrysler 8.25" rear was great, too.
I miss my old Cherokee. It was a tank.
