Does your engine stumble at ~1300rpm?

Anyone with a boost gauge care to check something for me? My engine has a fairly bad stumble or misfire at 1200-1400 steady rpm in neutral. I was wondering if this was the point when vacuum turns to boost?

Also noticed that when you rev it up, and the rpm's fall, that something "kicks in" at 1500rpm, and makes the engine sound different. Perhaps that's the VVT? Turbo's and VVT are both new things to me, but I love them!

Are you talking about in neutral? There shouldn't be any boost in neutral because there is no load on the engine. It may jump up to like 5psi for a split second before it drops back down but that's about it.

Yes, in neutral. Would the lack of boost in neutral be because of the computer dumping it, or just physics?

I'm thinking that my second statement might be explained by fuel cut. Perhaps a quick rev up in neutral, then letting off might cut fuel, then it kicks back on at 1500 rpm so it doesn't die. IDK.

My 1.8 did that untill I had a 1000 or so mile on it. Hell in neutral it would not rev above 3k dont know why . I haven't tried since but I will get back to you on it .

Newer automatic cars do that. My ex's 05 Trailblazer did the same thing.

Colorado did the same thing revving in neutral. As for the Sonic, I havent noticed the posted issue. I'll pay a little closer attn and see if I notice it on the way to work tonight. Is it at start-up, or when the engine is warm?

Completely different engine, but the 3.5L I5 in my Canyon always stumbled if you played with the throttle in neutral. Mess with it correctly and you can get it to stall when it falls back down to 600 RPM. Did it from 21 miles up to it's present 215K.. Actually driving I never saw an issue, those sort of problems are just artificial.

So you had an 04 or 05 355. You say only in neutral so I assume you had the 5 speed. My 05 rado had the auto

The inline 5 and an '06, with an auto. You know those still have neutral

Yes silly I know that. I just never had reason to rev an auto in neutral unless I was using seafoam. I couldnt remember what year they went to 3.7. For some reason I was thinking 06 got bigger displacement.
