I drive a 145 miles round trip to work each day from Miami to almost West Palm Beach in my Sonic 1.8 M/T. In the mornings when I leave the house at 5 AM for the 73 miles to work I average about 35 mpg with no traffic and cruise set to 65-70. But in the afternoon ride home 4PM, for the next 73 miles I have moderate to no traffic and same 65-70 mph on the cruise and I average 43-45mpg. So about 10 mpg difference from morning to afternoon and not sure why??? Any suggestions?? because id like to get the 43-45 all the time as I am solely HWY driving my Sonic.

Every full tank of me is 80 euro thats 120 dollar and if i shift at 2000 rpm than i get 650km on a tank otherwise 500 km

So thats why i hate it for a 1.4 engine eco

U kunt haat het. Stel je mijn Mustang. 4,6 L V8. Ik krijg 20 MPG, en het heeft een 61 liter brandstoftank.

I only get 24.1 city and that's with me barely touching the accelerator. It wont budge above that no matter what I do.

The short answer is Miami sucks. You are getting a little tailwind from the sucking action created on the way back to Miami. The mileage is worse leaving Miami in the morning because it is a little bit like trying to escape a black hole.

This is a validated statement as I work in Doral near the MIA airport.

Update: I decided to fill my tank with 93 and gently drive shifting between 1800-2000 RPM. All highway driving and I was averaging 43.2MPG. With 87 strictly city driving I'm averaging 33.5MPG. Still impressed.

I'm currently sitting at 41.3mpg after 13X.XX mi, max temps of maybe 40F. It'll likely drop to 38mpg for a full tank. 2 tanks ago I got a worst of 29.xx with some freezing temps, lots of idleing to get warm, short trips, and no less than 70mph highway.... my my what a few changes in driving can do for MPG.

Stupid extra power makes those gains not last long

Last summer before it got cold out i was averaging in my 1.8 Auto Sonic 25-28mpg City Driving and 30-35mpg Highway.

Now during this winter i have been seeing MUCH worse averages. ranging from 14-22mpg averaged in the city. 20-25 highway. But we all know engines run harder in the colder climates and i use my Remote start almost every morning before i leave for work. so that being said thats a good reason why im seeing such lower numbers during winter. I know once the weather breaks again i will see much better numbers again.

Since it got cold my DIC is averaging about 29, driving ~80% city, 20% highway with no warm up idling. Most of my driving is going 3 miles down the road to work, so the engine isn't warmed up yet and that helps kill the mileage. Before it got cold it was between 35-40 for the same commute.

I can't wait for warmer weather again.

I go to work very early in the mornings. I drive maybe 5-6 minutes from my house to work. so the car never gets fully warmed up, even with remote starting it. and Yes, Warmer Weather needs to hurry up already and get here so we ALL can enjoy nice MPG again.

I have same problem with a short trip to work. only a 10-14 minute drive mostly 55-65 mph. Get about 28.5 for coldest days and 31-32 on nice days. As for nice weather don't forget enjoying driving with the windows down! There has been one day this cold season that was doable for windows down and I drove the entire day just to enjoy it. Nothing like a good sunny drive down some back roads with the the windows down and music up.

Yeah I didn't listen to music for first bit when I had the car to hear the car while I was getting down when the car liked to shift in Manual mode. Now that I did that I can hear it over the music still and know when the best shifts are for my liking without keeping a eye on the gauge. As for temperature wise the one day here was 70 F. I loved every second of that day.

Windows down is pleasant, but if you're concerned about mpg you'll probably do better windows up, particularly on days when you don't have to run the AC

Most of the hate is for the 1.8L. Definitely below expectations, winter or not.

My 1.8 is averaging 34mpg. 75% country backroads and 25% city. Definitely no hate here.
