Door locks

Just a few moments ago, my wife was dropping me off somewhere and I had to get something out of the back hatch. She pressed the door unlock button many times, but nothing would allow the hatch to unlock. I opened the passenger door and pressed the unlock button, but nothing happened. She actually had to put the car in park for the doors to unlock.

Can anyone replicate this on their hatchback?

Is this somehow related to the anti-lockout feature found in MyLink or is this just the intended action for the vehicle?

You have to be in park to open the hatch. That's how it's set up. With a manual you have to be stopped and possibly in neutral.

From the Owners Manual

To unlock the doors and the trunk/liftgate:
. Press Unlock on the center stack.
. For vehicles with an automatic transmission, shift the transmission into P Park).
. For vehicle with a manual transmission, remove the key from the ignition.
This feature can be programmed.

Meaning it can be turned off?

I don't understand why the hatch is not allowed to be unlocked while the vehicle is in park/gear. What is this aimed at preventing?

with my 5mt sedan, i have to set the parking brake and then hit the unlock button if i want trunk access while the car is running.

I like having keyless entry, but sometimes I miss the simplicity of manual locks and windows from some of my previous cars. No stupid lawyer electronics locking me out of my car or preventing me from doing something.

I can't see any reason why I shouldn't be able to open the hatch with the car in drive. I thought maybe it was to prevent people from driving with the trunk or hatch opened, but obviously this cannot be the case as someone could just leave it opened when the car is off.

I would hate to be driving the manual and have to turn the engine off and remove the key.

I don't think so, I should have left the "can be programmed" part out.
