Hello, everyone I have a 13' sonic 1.4t that I'm trying to learn to tune on. I'm having issues with hptuners reading my ecm. Everytime I use vcm editor it fails to read it. Does anyone know how I can unlock the ecm? Or can I just replace the computer?

Use the latest 4.8 or 4.9 beta and read it out. If you have an aftermarket headunit or alarm, pull the fuse(s) for those as the CAN bud integration modules don't like to be quiet when told.

What error are you getting? Can you use the VCM Scanner and connect and log it?

It works with the scanner, but once I try to read it on the editor it fails. I attached a picture of the message I get.

Ok if you can communicate with it via the scanner, I'm betting the ECM is locked. Has this car been tuned before? Trifecta blocks reading, so you'll never be able to read/flash over it without returning to the stock file first.

I've never gotten it tuned. The previous owner didn't tell me anything about it being tuned. Do you know how I can flash it back to stock?

If it's tuned by Trifecta, I'd contract Trifecta and have them check if they've tuned your VIN. If they have, you'll need to have them provide a stock file and find or purchase their tuning cable.

If Trifecta didn't tune it, you'll likely have to replace the ECM and have a dealer or shop flash it using GM SPS to your VIN. Then you can tune it.

I'd suggest going to the HPTuners site and filing a support ticket as well. They'll have you send them some diagnostic info which may provide more info.
