Ehmagawd! I bought a Ford!

2013 Ford Focus to replace my wife's Mazda CX-9.

At the dealer:

At home:

We like it a lot so far. We would have got a Sonic hatch but I would have only got the turbo, and the Focus was actually cheaper after rebates. Plus it has a bit more room. It's an SE, 5-Speed.

My pop just bought a new Focus too - the ST. It's pretty damn sweet. More expensive than my Sonic RS, but you do get what you pay for. It's bigger, more powerful, and more refined inside and out. Ford has done pretty good with this little pony.

The Focus is a pretty nice car. If it weren't for dreaded dual clutch, I would have considered one a little more seriously. I have a Ford dealer within pushing distance and everything. :banana:

Thanks. Yeah I was wary of the DCT too, which is why I bought a manual. My wife really likes it and she will be driving it the most.

I would have bought a Chevy, but they don't really offer a Focus-sized hatchback or wagon. It would be great if we got the Cruze hatchback or wagon.

I have to be honest.
I have nothing against Ford, or the Focus, but if I was looking for a wagon it would be a 2.0 XT Forester.

Forester = 32/24 (Subaru.com)
XV Crosstrek = 33/25 (Subaru.com)
Focus Wagon = 36/26 (Ford.com)........

Not much of a difference between the base model mpg ratings....... Certainly not 50% less consindering at worst it's (advertised) 4/2 mpg less than the Focus and that can be easily changed with driver, location and condition changes. Do I think you need an AWD car in Jax? Certainly not, but it doesn't hurt when every road you're driving down has 6" of water on them. Congrats on the new car though, I hope you and your family enjoy it and get the most out of it.

When I said 50% difference, I was looking at the 2013 2.5XT, which is rated at 19/24. Comparing the highway ratings: 36 to 24 = 50% increase. Didn't realize they changed to 2.0XT in '14.

Thanks. Yeah I read all of the less than favorable reviews of the DCT and associated problems.

Thankfully my wife can drive stick because the manual was less expensive plus it had an additional manual transmission rebate.

I'm glad I picked a Sonic, but I'd love a Focus ST. In fact before I got the Sonic I really wanted a 2012 Ford Focus hatchback, it was a nice blue color and had titanium wheels on it. So nice, but the financing just didn't work how I wanted it to.

I was having a hard time deciding between the WRX and STi and even went as far as to throw the Focus ST into the mix. From a price point from base to Limited WRX and base to fully loaded ST there really was not a big difference. Power was down compared to the WRX, it's FWD vs AWD and the aftermarket is already solid for the WRX. I went one step further and went with the STi because the I-Drive, DCCD, brakes, suspension, 6spd manual and engine upgrades where more than worth it compared to what it would have cost to upgrade a base WRX and there is no option for a 6 spd in the WRX.
