Holy crap...nuff said.
My 2013 RS 6spd was completely stock up until this past Friday when I took it to the shop for handling modifications. I did NOT test the car with each piece individually. My review is based on the difference between a stock RS and an RS with the lowering springs and sway bars.
First of all, the wheels are tires were changed too (definitely played a major role in the "holy crap" factor). I'm running Fast Hayaku 17x8 wheels with Michelin pilot super sport tires (235/45).
I got the car back yesterday afternoon and have spent about 2 hours driving it. It is amazing, guys.
1. The Eibach's really remind me very much of my 09 gti. The spring rebound rate feels very Volkswagen-like (in a good way!). The ride is NOT harsh by any means and I live in an area with some pretty harsh roads. My advice to those worrying about ride quality after installing these springs...don't worry! It's actually very comfortable and does not rob the car at all of daily-driver points.
2. The sway bars have essentially eliminated all negative body roll (some roll is always good). The body roll that still remains is so slight and perfect...I really can't put into words how confident I feel cornering with the car now. I do not see a need for coilovers in this car at all. I was considering upgrading next summer and I'm pretty convinced now that I have exactly what I want already.
The combination of the new tires, springs, and bars have completely changed the way this car handles. I have never driven a car that handles better than this and I drove a stock gti for years along with a 2010 wrx for several months. This car would absolutely destroy both of those cars (stock). It's NOT even a contest. It really isn't. I'm baffled by the performance results and also the fact that, once you slow down and drive normally, it's almost impossible to tell that anything was changed at all on the car. I picked up my girlfriend after the mods and she initially thought "Anthony...you spent all this money...and I don't feel anything different." Then I put it into a corner at 45 mph without a SQUEAK from the tires. Needless to say...she felt something different.
I seriously feel like I can out-corner every car on the road now (regardless of whether or not that's true). The CONFIDENCE that this set up will bring you in the corners is astonishing. It's just so planted and glued to the road. It's absolutely intoxicating.
The ONLY down side to these mods is that I can hear a little bit of friction between two pieces of metal when slowly going over bad bumps in the road. It isn't very loud or annoying but it is there. I will be taking it back to the shop to have that inspected. If anyone here has an idea as to what it may be...say so! It doesn't sound serious. Again, just a little bit of friction. No banging or popping or anything unsettling.
Regardless of the slight added noise I REALLY recommend this set up I can't imagine anyone being dissatisfied with it.
