2013 RS, owned it for three weeks, 251k on it.
Had the car out of a rainy day, drove it less than 10 miles and it started smoking like crazy. Got it home to see the radiator inlet hose had blown off the coolant water outlet. I had recently been in there to do an oil change, so I did the "damn, maybe it's my fault" and walked away with my tail between my legs. Connected everything back up, bled the lines as best I could, took it for a hardy test drive, and everything seemed fine. For some reason you would get that sweet coolant smell after parking it, but I thought it was still burning off everything that had spewed throughout the engine bay, and there was zero signs of leakage beneath it.
Fast forward one week, same thing happens. So now my mind is racing trying to think what could be causing it... and when I get home I see this:
I know I didn't wrench on it hard enough to cause that, and I drove it around to check for leaks after the first pop off. Fans kicked on, no geysers, and I could see the fluid flowing into the overflow tank easily. Also note that the bulge in the hose was not there prior to this incident.
My question is this: what could have caused that to happen? I'm thinking there is too much pressure in the system and it's blowing that hose off since it's the weakest point in the system, but why? I know I have to get an engine coolant water outlet and I was going to get a new surge tank cap, but is there anything else I should be looking for? Should I do the thermostat? Water pump? The radiator was recently replaced (or so I was told) due to it leaking, so at the time of writing this, I'm also prepping to talk to the previous owner.
