Engine questions.

If this was answered in a different thread I apologize in advance.

I have the RS, and was curious about the engine. Does it have an aluminum or iron block? Also, does it have timing gears, chain or belt?

Will I ever need to add injector clean to the fuel at anytime? What about Marvels Mystery Oil (heard good things about it, never used)? I do keep up with maintenance on a regular schedule.

I noticed last week when it was cold out, I had to use a little force to put the car into 3rd, but once warmed it was golden. Anyone else encounter needing a little force to shift when cold?

Also, I experienced a stall. I was pointing up a hill, and when I started to release the clutch it stalled. I noticed that it felt like the emergency brake was on and holding it. I was told the hill holder feature was cold. I think that is BS, but anyone experience the hill holder hold your car a little too well?

Iron block and timing chain.

Not direct injection so no need unless you get some bad gas.

No experience with the mystery oil and no intention to do so.

I have never experienced a problem with hill hold and whyever you stalled I do not believe "cold" hill hold contributed.

I would not recommend adding Marvels Mystery Oil, or any other oil additive for that matter. An additive like that could void GM's powertrain warranty. Just use a good synthetic oil, such as Mobil1.

You can add it to both fuel and oil.

I ran it in the oil of my bronco 2 to keep the lifters happy.

That is incorrect. Marvels Mystery Oil can be added to oil too.

Snake oil remedies rake in millions of profit dollars for those manufacturing them. I remember (years ago) that my dad was sold on Slick 50, the 50K-mile oil additive that lubricated like "teflon". Then studies showed clogging of internals and my dad stopped using it. Personally, I wouldn't add anything to the crankcase except a reputable motor oil and providing regular incremental changes. I've read some 'positive' things regarding Sea Foam but wouldn't risk it yet with engines less than 100K miles on the clock. Reserve the additives for the "sunset years".

I had a good conversation with a custom shop owner about conventional oil vs. synthetic and he said he'd never had a problem with oil breaking down. The only problem with oil he had was with contaminants messing up things. Keep your oil clean and you should have no problems. (I used to run Mobil 1).

I always use marvels 1k before an oil change I've done that since new and pretty much in all my cars

This reminded me of an infomercial years ago for some oil additive, it could've been Slick 50, I don't recall. What they did was drain the oil, remove the oil pan and douse this idling engine inside and out with a fire hose. Well duh, the water would not only keep the engine cool but also act as a lubricant to keep the engine running long enough for a few takes.

The narrator was exclaiming in his excited sports caster voice how with the oil drained and even when flooded with water the engine amazingly continues to run! Yeah well flooding it with the fire hose is what was keeping it running instead of it melting down to a molten puddle of iron.

Wow, Slick 50..Now that brings back some memories! I used that stuff in my Camaro many moons ago. I never realized that it was known to clog internals.
I couldn't agree more with just using motor oil.
