Exhaust question

I am looking at doing a custom 2.5" exhaust on my RS and can't decide if I want res, and muffler combo, either or either of the two. Also with going with a muffler what's the difference between a turbo-style and chambered style muffler? I am looking for a deeper throaty tone cause I don't want it to sound like a complete rice burner.

Every instance i've seen/heard of a 1.4 with a non muffler setup sounded like a skittle. If you want quiet go the dual muffler route (cat even to quiet it down).

as an example sounds very much like a skittle imo.

I heard that before, but I don't want to be quite so ill probably do one muffler but too many different types not knowing what each individual one does.

Don't wasn't your money on a "custom" exhaust.

Order the ZZP cat-back without the muffler. I would spring for the secondary cat delete piece as well. That will be plenty loud, gurgly, poppy and everything it sounds like you want.

If you're getting the downpipe at some point it will be insanely loud with the above setup.

The sonic IMO sounds perfect on stock downpipe, with the secondary cat deleted and no muffler or res on the ZZP cat-back.

I am eventually getting the downpipe, just want to start with the cat-back part and get the dp with tune when I have over 12k miles on my car. So that's why I am wanting a muffler, and ZZP is 400 cause of shipping even though I'm in mi? That's why I'm doing custom cause I can do from the first cat for less.

You can pick it up from their shop if you so desire.

I find it hard to believe you can get a system anywhere near the quality of the ZZP system for that amount.

Unless you have the supplies on hand and can make it yourself. If so, more power to ya.

I am on the other side of mi, and I don't have supplies for it but know a really good shop in Rochester, they want $100 for them to do exhaust I just need a muff and a tip

Lol yeah that's gonna be junk.

Won't be stainless steel, will be crush bent and prolly mig'd. As I said before don't waste the money on that.

Crush bent you mean with the ridges on the inside of the bend? Cause they mandrel bend everything and I don't need the stainless.

Yes that is what I mean by crush bent.

Are you not going to drive the vehicle in the winter?

If that's what you want to do by all means go for it. I however wouldn't go that route.

I would definitely opt for stainless in that case.
