Factory Stereo question

Hey good folks, I have two questions for you.

I've noticed that when I have the radio on, whether XM or FM, the sound volume is quite low. This isn't the case when streaming music from phone via BT or using USB.

Question 1: have you noticed low volume when using the radio? Just radio, not any other connectivity methods to stream music.

Question 2: do you rear speakers sound MUCH quieter than the front ones? I noticed that when I fade to 100% rear and turn the volume all the way up, the sound volume is about half that of the front. Perhaps more.

You can change start volume for radio in the settings. Or are you saying the volume is low even when adjusted to the same volume as an auxiliary device?

My volume seems fine.

Answer 1: Yes, the FM volume is considerably lower than when listening to music (MP3s) via USB. It's been so long since I've used XM that I don't remember about that.

Answer 2: Yes, the rear speakers put out much less volume than the front, exactly as you have described.

Hmmm..its the other way around for me. The radio sounds louder and when I'm listening to my ipod via usb I have to turn the volume up. I have to make sure to turn the volume down whenever I switch to FM haha. I can live with it.

Also, you should go into the "Tone" setting and adjust the treble, mid and bass to your liking. They all default to 0 from the factory. Adjusting those settings will make things sound much better.

Oh yes of course! That's the first thing I adjusted when I got my Sonic

Thanks guys. Tone and other settings are adjusted and have been for a long time. I double checked before posting.

River_Rat, thanks for confirming. Looks like I need to upgrade the speakers at some point. The thin, tinny sound has been bothering me for a while now.

Settings for each source are separate. Set up everything individually in IPOD, XM, FM and Apps.

I have the opposite problem with mine (MyLink.) Radio and XM sources are far louder than USB. I have to crank up the volume considerably when playing from USB and remember to turn it down before changing the source.

It's nice that they offer different EQ settings per source... Too bad there isn't a volume adjustment like I've seen on aftermarket decks as well to help even out the volume between the various sources.

Nothing against upgrading speakers, but you might be surprised by what something as simple as adding a 10" powered sub will do. It's certainly not high end, but I find it to be more than adequate for my needs, which is listening to a variety of rock and newgrass. The speakers don't sound all that bad with the bass turned to - 10 or - 12.

I have the sub (Kicker Basstation) set at 6 and the volume is normally either 9 or 11 and with that set up am quite happy with the oem speakers.
