first snow drive

well I started a new job today. second shift, and i had to drive home in this god awful snow slush combo at 12:15AM but I am so surprised by the sonic, holy crap is this thing good in the snow. But i can't say how much i hate stabilitrak...
I went to a parking lot and was going to dick off for a bit, but noooo stabilitrak had other ideas... what happened to good ol no tcs/stm ?

Tap TC button, located between you and the gearshift lever, next to the child safety lock, to turn off TC instantly. You get a warning light on your tach. Hold it down for six seconds or so instead, to turn off SC as well, second warning light. Both systems are still partially on at this point, but very minimally so. If you really really want them absolutely dead, you'll have to pop the hood, open the fuse box, and pull the ABS fuse. This will also kill your ABS, of course, and you'll get a whole Xmas tree of warning lights, and sometimes bells and whistles when starting the car.

I won't bother with the obligatory warning that you will no longer have nannies to oversee your every move, after all, that's the point isn't it?

So, we have not had any snow since I got my new car. But I would like to learn about how effective the TC/SC button is in the off position. In other words, now much does it continue to work even when it is off. Since I would prefer to handle my own car, I will likely just pull the fuse when winter comes at the end of the year.

Well I didn't know that if you held it STM turns off, that's amazing lol
But i appreciate the feedback. I just got her moved from the snow into the plowed bits of my yard and i didn't even have to dig little ol' starla out

My experience after playing around with the various settings is that the only time I'd care about SC is if I were deliberately drifting around in an empty lot. But TC cripples the car for several seconds after it cuts in and is really impossible to deal with if you've beefed up the power as much as I have; the slightest hint of wheel spin and it's there to stop you.

TC button off, though, and I'm perfectly happy, I know people say it's still there, and I guess maybe it is, but if so it is very unobtrusive.

Upgrading the tires may have helped with that as well, both systems kick in when you lose grip; TC on acceleration, SC for skids. Better tires mean less of those.

Traction control limits wheel spin in poor traction conditions by modulating engine power and ABS brake application; stability control uses a yaw sensor and steering position sensors and the ABS braking system, and engine power to attempt to keep the vehicle going straight when conditions are favorable to induce a skid.

Yeah i hear you on the Sc for intentional stuff. But it's annoying when I have a stock 1.8 5spd and i'd turn tc off before i know i could turn sc off, and second gear chirp would turn into second gear slow :l
