FIT or Sonic?

Given the similarities, why did you choose to go with the Chevy Sonic instead of the well-proven Honda Fit?

I got down to the Fit and Sonic. I don't think either is a bad choice. It just depends on your priorities. I picked the Sonic because it's better suited to my needs, which were a quiet commuter car with good mileage. It was less expensive too, though not hugely so. The Fit is super reliable and offers perhaps a bit more utility, but that's not a huge issue for me. It's also louder when cruising too and I would agree with others, it's boring. Having my car made in the USA was a plus and my last car was a Chevy that ran faithfully for years. One of the other bigger things in favor of Chevy for me is there's a Chevy dealer a few blocks from me while the closest Honda dealer is an hour away.

We bought a new 2010 Fit Sport automatic for my wife. It's a great car with an ingenious folding rear seat giving a huge flat cargo area. Biggest drawback is I can't slide the driver's seat far enough back for leg comfort. I bought a 2013 Sonic LTZ Turbo to replace my 2000 Honda Civic CX Hatchback because:
1) I love hatchbacks and there are very few out there.
2) Subsidized by almost $3400 in GM Credit Card reward money.
3) It, uh, "fits" me better with tilt/telescope column and seat adjustments.
4) Made in USA by Americans is a plus.

The Honda just doesn't have the edgy, fun to drive, or cool look plus it reminded me of my moms 2003 dodge caravan with the shape but I did almost buy it but plastic wheels and bland design aren't my thing

Wow, a lot of hate is directed at the Sonic's competitors in this forum. This is the pros, cons, and neutral list I used.

Sonic hatch
+ Better engine - As far as fuel economy and power go this is the better engine, though Honda's engine reliability is famous.
+ Great Transmission
+ Chassis feels more solid
- Chevy Reliability - Truedelta shows the 2012 Sonic as being less reliable than average. Hopefully 2013 is better.
- Sea of hard plastics inside.

Fit
+ Interior Space - The magic seat really is magical.
+ Reliability - One of the most reliable makes and models in production.
* Due to a deficit of power, the engine on this car needs to be pushed hard more often, but it is insanely reliable and can handle it. Some people like this, some don't.
- Sea of hard plastics inside.
- Transmission - Shifting feels nice, but the car needs a taller top gear. 4k RPM at 80 MPH sucks.
- Chassis - This felt soft to me, though people claim it handles very well when pushed to the limit.

Sonic Over Fit

Looked at and test drove both cars (top trim level for both cars). We owned two Hondas and both are reliable cars. Decided on Sonic for several reasons:
Sonic has height-adjustable drivers seat with armrest; Sonic offered more features for less money than Fit. Traded in my 2002 Honda CR-V. We now have 2012 Sonic and 2007 Honda CR-V.

I think that the fit is more of a competitor to the versa hatch , and that the fiesta, accent, rio are competitors to the sonic . Both the fit and versa are oddly shaped , but offer good cargo room . I like the ford fiesta but it lacks on cargo room . And then there's the Mazda which I drove before buying my sonic . I liked it a lot but it had no room inside . The sonic is at the top of the pack , it offers two good power trains , good handling , lots of features , a good price and it looks awesome .

My mother is friends with a Chevy dealer. He took $1800 off the 5 year bumper to bumper warranty.

I was looking at Fits and considering having my mom find a used one that her friend could get us. The quieter ride really has impressed me. I've driven my cousin's Fit, and it has that RC car sound familiar to all low powered Hondas.

Something absurdly high, I think close to $3k. I think I got the 5 year/60,000 mile one, with $35/day for rental car coverage. Honestly, they probably still made money on it. I wouldn't have paid for it if I were paying for it, even with the discount.

I bought a sonic over the fit because 1. its made in the USA and I like the fact that American hands built it. 2. I like the appearance over the fit.
