I replaced all of my speakers and tweeters in factory original places and ran new wiring because it seemed way easier and more reliable than untangling the factory wiring. The amp I plan on putting underneath the stock head unit. After everything was wired and tested I decided to keep the amp on the passenger floor just so i can monitor it my first couple drives. Probably about half an hour to 45min the amp gets so hot it almost burned me on touch and there was a slight burning smell coming from it. The first thing I did was disconnect it and i stopped by the local best buy just to see if they could see if there was any problems. The technician said my ground could be the problem it is currently grounded on a bolt in the siding beneath the passenger door and he said that the ground is going though all these spot welds and it probably is getting a bad ground and thus running hotter. Now I am wondering if he is right and if so where would be the best place to ground it? He said try to run my ground straight to the negative terminal on my battery and that should do it. I am using the Rockford Fosgate amp install kit.
Also is the turn signal supposed to be connected to the speakers? When I had the amp on it made the clicking really loud and with it disconnected i get no clicking whatsoever.
Sorry if these are dumb questions I have never seen an amp get installed or had anyone to help me I do run data wiring though homes and businesses as my main job so I am perfectly comfortable with that aspect but the hardware and troubleshooting is way past my expertise. So any help would be appreciated and if you need any more info or pictures I can happily do that.
Edit: Even though it is cold as balls up here in Michigan I did not have my floor vents going so that wasn't a factor and I have the 2012 LTZ 6 speed manual.
