Found a used Maserati for 22k...

So I spotted this guy while driving around. A Maserati Quattroporte for $22k, which is $80,000 off the original price when new.

Seems too good to be true doesn't it? Well, you get what you pay for. An interesting and somewhat scary test drive followed. Hope you enjoy!

Good video, that's a Ferarri engine, so it should have moved quickly, but they did get bad reviews for their early trannies...the ones I'd seen only had buttons, not that football trophy shaped thing.

Guy in my neighborhood had a white 4 door, but now it's a black two door, looks "batman"ish.. sounds cool.

Remember that when you buy a $100,000 car for $22,000, you still get the maintenance bills of a $100,000 car. Then, you take those maintenance costs and double them because it's an Italian car and out of warranty.

Bottom line is, a $22,000 car like that is nowhere near as affordable as it may seem.

I just had to stop and see what a $22K Maserati looked like. The service bills, part costs, etc just blow my mind if I start to think about it.

Can't imagine sending that to the dealership. You can't go to autozone and ask for a fan belt... Don't think they'd carry that.

yeah, like those really cheap BMW 7 series you come across every blue moon...priced so low... until you figure in parts...YIKES

Exactly. You'd have better luck with a brand new Sonic. Cheaper to buy, cheaper to insure, cheaper to fix.

What's even odder, and I've seen this at other small dealerships, is they'll have a car with bad parts or performance and still sell it.. Clean it up and mark up the price... I know it costs money to fix things (and on this car a LOT I'm sure...) but if he'd have put in a few dollars he could have gotten more in return...hasn't he seen Wheeler Dealers?

I test drove an Audi TT quattro convertible for a buddy, and 2-3 things on it were just broken...stuff which could have been fixed....the little glass window between the driver & passenger, to cut wind noise...wouldn't come up straight...that's an easy fix, but nope, just broken... doesn't inspire confidence in that dealership.

I was impressed though they put new tires on. Nice people, but I think they got into more than they should have with this thing.

How'd the suspension feel, did it rattle or clunk, or just feel like always bottomed out?

I liked the interior, especially that CD changer. The airbag module seemed odd, but I wonder if it was like my old Contour where the bag itself literally was coming loose from the wheel, and I had to tighten down some phillips screws on the back to get it back in position...either that or just poor warpage on cheap plastic...

The seats looked nice, I did see a spot, but overall looked like a decent interior.

If someone really wanted, that car could be purchased, invest maybe 10K in replacing worn out suspension components, fix the brakes (can't be more than a set of pads or master cylinder, heck, they may need to be bled), a good detailing and a tuneup at the local Ferarri dealer...Local?.. and boom, a relatively cheap Maserati that would give at least 80K more in fun.. You'd have to want to spend money on it... but hell people buy fully loaded pickups for $60K....for a f'ing truck?

No major rattles or clunks. Ride felt normal.

I know what you mean on steering wheels from the 90s, this was legit like separated hard plastic, looked bent or warped.

Passenger seat had a discoloration spot, driver side had more wear obviously. Back seats weren't bad. I'm sure it was all crazy good leather in it, this was a $100k car new.

It would scare me buying this because of the repair costs.
Rotors are probably super expensive, as are pads.
Transmission is noted as crazy weird and crazy expensive to fix online.

The whole idea of this makes you wonder on so many different levels. $80k in depreciation though over 8 years... Just insane.

Here's pretty much what the neighborhood guy drives
