Front plate bracket removal

I personally hate the look of front license plates, so I took off the front bracket. When I first looked under the dealer ad, I thought they were a proprietary screw. After trying to screw them out, I found out they are in fact rivets. Only tool you will need is a small pry bar.

Here is what the bracket will look like after you pry off the rivets. Even if you want to put it back on later, the damage that you WILL DO to the bracket doesn't matter because it is going to be behind a license plate anyway.

All done!

There will be holes left in the plastic part. Cover them however you want. A big piece of vinyl, bondo and paint. I am going to run to Autozone and get plastic plugs (like what holds together some body panels and interior pieces and such)

Got around to going back to Autozone and buying plastic rivets to cover the holes.

Nice job on the DIY, I'm sure a lot of people will be pulling these off.

oldertech, Willey didn't drill/install mine thank god. It was just sitting in the trunk in a bag. I'm likely moving to a state with front plates though, so I'm not looking forward to drilling my car maybe I can make a better bracket.

Since I no longer drive around with anything illegal, this is on my list. Just put the plate on the dash

I am personally not going to put one on.

The chevy logo is still there. I am going to make another write up on that later but i will say right now it cost like $3 for the black logo

Yeah here in Netherlands when you drive with your plate behind the front window than you can get a ticket of arround 130 dollar

But i have order mat black car wrap! and i thook me 5min. for 1 logo to cut the vinyl in the logo!

and that was arround 5 dollar and then you van 4times wrap a logo

My experience in Iowa (only front plate state I lived in) was putting the plate on the dash attracted more attention than not running one at all. When I kept it on my dash on the Civic, I got pulled over like every week it seemed like.

I'll call the dealer and see if I can stop the drilling before it happens. Stop the drilling!!!! Somehow I see it happening anyway.

another method

There is another way to remove the front license tag, I guess its because I am used to drilling out rivets...

Anyway, I used a appropiate diameter drill bit, and simply drilled the heads of the rivets. If you do this carefully, its quite quick and the remaining bit of the rivet is still in the bumper, you just push it through and collect them next time you change oil....I did not want to pull them back out, thereby enlarging the holes.

Takes just a couple of minutes.

so the dealer installed these plate brackets ? I tried to remove mine because it was installed too high covering the bottom of the bowtie . looks wrong ... yes I tried to remove it as a screw looking for a secuity screwdriver bit to fit it , lol ....
