garmin map updates

hey all, my grandpa has a garmin nuvi 1450 he purchased last year. he has unlimited updates and asked if i could update his nav unit. so i hooked up, went to the website, and tried to update. they want me to pay 90 bucks for updates.

anyone know what's goin on here??? am i stuck paying or does anyone know a way to get the maps for free?

Map updates are FREE if you have the lifetime free maps option,,, however.. you ONLY get a maximum of 4 of those per year.. any more than that, they could cost.. Go to MY GARMIM or MY DASHBOARD on garmnin.com.... plug it in so garmin can find the unit.. it will tell you all you want/need to know...

You need the code that came in the box with the Nuvi.

Nothing is attached the serial to give it free updates. When you go to update you will have a place to enter a code, the code that was on a single piece of paper in the box.

Both of my Garmin's didn't have that piece of paper in the box... Both were brand new.

There is no way to get the maps for free. Call Garmin if you are having issues.

Not all come with it. Its a feature, you have to buy the model that offers it. And its stupid not to. Its usually a miniscule amount.
