Gas Brands:Who do you prefer?

Whatever's cheapest, which is usually Arco (BP) cuz gas is gas, you're gonna use it up anyways. As for quality, I don't trust all those brand advertisements stating all their cleaners in their fuel so I just use my own fuel additive/cleaner just to be absolutely sure. Plus, I've seen on tv from this car mechanic/shop owner that the fuel here in CA all comes from the same refinery anyways, so being brand loyal is pointless. He said it's all housed in the same huge tanks, only divided by walls. When someone needs a certain brand, they just pump from that specific side of the vate, pretty interesting & shocking really. 87 OCT is fine too, no need to pay extra for 93 since it only has 138 HP anyways, plus my car has ran good on it so far. I've tried 93 a few times, but to me it really ain't worth it MPG or power wise, it feels/drives the same no matter what you put in it. It's engineered to run the lowest octane possible without harm so whatever's the most cost effective to me is smartest.

Shell Premium. My car has only had different gas run through it from the factory and dealer fills. I use it because it's the only gas that didn't make my friend's Lightning run like crap and it's readily available nationwide.

I use 93 octane at Shell due to convenience of location as well as gas points I get at Kroger. If that's not available, then any toptier gas. I do not use any non top-tier gas, period.

I use Costco 91 octane but only because its convenient+cheaper being that I work there and I can get it before or after work.. But I get pretty good mile per gallon. And I feels fine power wise, however I doubt I could tell the difference between something else unless its E85. But I just have a regular tune.

I use BP because of my Rewards card. Got it up to $1.00 off per gallon last time o.o

Oh I also forgot to mention I also blend in some chevron gas when possible.

To be specific I fill up halfway with Shell V-Power and then fill up the rest of the way with Chevron with Techron.

The combination results in V-TECH and is amazing

I will have to admit, I was running the sams club, costco gas all the time, but since I have started running purely shell 93, she has more pep and and extra 2-3 MPG to boot.

does it matter if it's a top tier brand or not because if i can't make it to a shell, quiktrip, or chevron when my fuel light comes on i will go to a non-top tier station

I vastly prefer Kroger... because the E85 there costs 60-80 cents per gallon less than the going price for 87 At one point in Texas I paid $2.68 a gallon when the "regular" was going for $3.50. Up here in PA, my only local source for E85, independant Molly's (which is part of WoGo) charges a mere 10-20 cents less.

As for quality of gas, while I have in my lifetime gotten some "bad gas" a couple times, it has been rare, and for the most part all gasoline at a given octane rating seems to me to be completely interchangeable with all other at that octane rating. I am prepared to discover that there IS some reason to pay a higher price for a specific brand, but the proof would have to be pretty compelling, since the only difference I've noticed is that higher price for same product means more money being shelled out of my pocket.

any* gas is safe to put in your car. Chevy recommends top tier because it contains certain levels of additives, but you are in no way required to put a particular brand of gas in there (that would probably violate anti-trust laws or something similar).

my last fill up was at a shell station and i prepaid on my debit card for $35 and the actual cost was $32.75. i'm still waiting on the funds to go back into my account. i've tried calling the gas station and no luck and it's already been 12 days since then.

I can't argue this. However there's a correlation between crap fuel brands/stations and drivability issues (rough idle, poor mpg, sporadic misfire, etc), these cars also trend to be more problematic after a great deal of miles.

Casey's gas station comes to mind but there are several others brands that I must say SUCK, their are also crap stations regardless of brand but occasional use is normally inconsequential (for instance I recently went to a large shell station, a reputable brand, and this station had ~40 year old pumps, they were archaic. I'm still not worried but I wouldn't regular such a place)

Just a trend I've noticed as a tech and thru observation, one most techs would agree with.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a firm believer in buying gas from reputable stations (Shell, whenever practical). I notice a significant difference in fuel economy between brand name/generic gasoline. It helps that a relatively small percentage change is easy to see when you're getting 40 or above. Although I cannot draw from personal experience, I'm convinced that additives will make a difference in the long run when it comes to carbon/gunk deposits, etc.

Since I moved out west there is Arco I go to, price wise, close to my house, can't beat it. When visiting my girlfriend in Canada I choose Petro Canada.

I'm not picky as to who sells me the gas I put in my car, as long as it's the cheapest top tier gas I can find.

Only Shell for me. Perfect example of what junk gas does can be seen on your valves. I bought a brand new bike, put nothing but shell 91 in it, at 12k miles I took the bike apart to do a valve adjustment and the valves were completely clean looking brand new. the same was done with my friends bike at the same mileage. he used cheap gas, usually costco style gas, his valves looked like they had sand dunes on them full of black ****. same bikes, same styles of riding and maintenance schedules.

BP or Shell V Power but mostly Shell unless the fuel light has been on for quite some time. When I can help it I only fill at 1 gas station and 1 pump in the morning time. I also read the fuel guns for the remove by date. Not a fan of NJ because I had issues with them putting 87 in my turbo Subaru after telling them 9 times I want 93. I knew I was screwed when the fuel needle moved too far for the price per gallon.
