Half Tune option?

Why not include a "Half Tune" that gets about a 15-20% increase in HP and Torque along with the Factory and Normal Trifecta Tune?

I would think it would cost hardly anything, and I bet sales would increase substantially.

Many of us are understandably wary of adding the full power increase to their brand new car (especially on a new model with no history to establish reliability). A half tune would offer a less worrisome option. 25 extra HP & Torque is still a sweet improvement, and knowing the full Tune was only a flash away would give this kit a more universal appeal.

I am on board for the full tune; however, if the kit came with a half Tune, I would apply the half tune during the "new car honeymoon" (I would cry SO HARD if I tore something up right away). Later I could add the full Tune to rekindle the joy.

Also, in two years, I will be teaching my daughter to drive a stick with this car (stressful times ahead!). Obviously, I will revert to the factory tune for that.

However, once the training was over, unless she really takes to having a clutch I wouldn't be comfortable having the Full Tune, and the mid tune would give me a safer option without having to sacrifice all of the joy.

What do you say, BNR? Do you have any sway with Trifecta?

I wanna say that Trifecta or BNR are able to create any tune the user wants. That way if you want an 87 or 89 octane tune, they'll do it.

I'm not suggesting a custom tune. This would be a generic tune.
If I understand we are simply talking a few more MB of data (on a chip or downloaded from their website).

I feel this would be "added value" for their product.

However, I will ask directly as well.

It's a full custom tune. We can make it as strong or as weak as you want.

I think he's trying to suggest that you ask them to come up with a second tune, a "Mild Tune" that they could include for a small upcharge when you buy the top end tune. Sounds like a good idea to me, frankly, as a middlin tune for daily driving and then the whole shebang for weekends/track/whenever would probably be kinder on the hardware. If you buy the cable you can dial in any of three settings, "Factory" for taking it in for service, "Warm" for daily driving, and "OMG" (the current tune) for showing off.

Exactly!

I suspect having the option to chose and swap between a "conservative" and a "hot" tune would appeal to many customers who are reluctant to go for the full tune.

they do have a sport mode on other cars that allow two forms of the tune to be ran but with this car being so new it has not been developed yet. on the 1.8 we are hoping that throwing it into manual mode will make the tune more aggressive, and i have herd the ability more so for a manual to use the cruse control or some other trigger. that would be the best thing to fit what yall are asking for i think less room for error between flashes, but vince and BNR are great people and im sure if you ask for a modified version they wont give you a hastle if you enjoy the constant tune but as a driver i can see how this would be a complete pain in the butt every time you want to switch, and as far as im aware when you tune you get a new tune and the stock tune files if you ask for it so you can take your baby in to the dr's to have her fixed.

There wouldn't be any charge for what you are asking... We would do a weaker tune and you'd save that file, then we'd adjust it for more power and you'd just save that as a separate file. It's the same tune, just 2 different versions... Like one would have less boost or something but you would just save them as two different file names.

I would stomp on kittens for that kind of option. Kidding. But only barely. Hmm, This paycheck is mortgage/Impala/Sonic, but I get paid again the night of the 30th, I think...

Also, this is something you could distribute to people who have already bought the full tune to give them the same option. Just a thought.

If someone were to request it we would do it. Now keep in mind that it would NOT be something you could select on the fly in the car. You'd have to get out your laptop and cable and upload whichever tune you wanted to have for the time.

I've been PM'ing BNR about this in the background. My Tune order is in with BNR (though I don't yet have a VIN) and they are going to provide a 60% tune up front and later switch to the full tune. From this thread, it is clear that I can save the 60% Tune for use after I get the full tune.
So, my plans look something like this:
Car delivery - Load and test both 60% and 100% tune, then return it to Factory tune (we'll see if I can really follow through on this part)
10,000-12,000 (first maintenance if I can be so patient) - switch to 60%
Brave/adventurous people accrue history with 100% tune and no issues - switch to 100%
Daughter learning to drive manual - switch to factory
Daughter knows how to drive and driving my car on occasion - 60% tune

Of course this doesn't include reinstalling factory tune for maintenance.

BNR is great for this **** and you will be happy when you get the car/tune and i doubt you will want to go back to stock, dont think i would unless something pops and i need to take her in for repairs lol. But you are speaking up at a great time when the cable doesnt cost you an extra buttload to buy so you can reflash as often as you wish.

It definitely will be difficult to not just keep the Tune at 100% and I may for the most part; but I'll definitely go back to factory and later, 60% Tune as my daughter learns to drive a stick.
It will be stressful enough being supportive as I hear the gears grinding and the clutch slipping. I don't think I want the extra 50hp and 40 ft-lbs torque on tap when she is doing this!

But yeah, BNR has been very good to work with on this.
