Heat issues

It was in the teens yesterday morning and this morning. The car blows super hot heat on the RPMs are above 2000. Sitting at idle, the air starts blowing cold. I had a Nissan Pathfinder that had the same issue, and was told to add coolant. Is this a similar issue?

Look at the coolant reservoir bottle under the hood. There is a mark about 1/2 way up the side that the coolant should be at.
If it is lower than this mark then add the required amount to bring it up to the level.
Use caution if car is already warmed up as the cap will be under pressure and may burn you if removed to quickly.
If your car is using/leaking coolant you might want to perform a leakdown test on it to find the leaking component.

#1 culprit... waterpump drip leaks. Look on it for any signs of dried up coolant... there will be a residue if there is one.

Yeah.... more than a few of us have had new waterpumps installed. I even have a letter, should it happen again, they'll fix it. Luckly, my Sonic is leak free.

Also check the hoses that go out of the radiator towards the engine, the ones that are under the reservoir. That's where my leak was.
