Hello Sonic fans

Hi everyone! I came across this car while browsing Chevy's website. I am seriously considering a Sonic as a commuter/sales car for my business. It just seems to fit everything Im looking for.

I have 2 questions, maybe someone will know... Does the turbo version require 91 octane (I know many FI cars do). And I am wondering what the alowable GM points usage will be for this car.

I am tempted to order a car now, but I really want to sit in one first. Color will also be a big decision:)

Welcome greenfire.

If you look up the Cruze 1.4L Turbo on edmunds.com it says 'regular unleaded' so 87 will be OK.

Post the question up in General Discussion to see what the other guys say...

To answer your question about points (I believe you mean GM Card points), there is no way to know for sure, but the cap for small cars in the past has always been 1000

If you get a Trifecta performance tune then you will have to run 91 octane. With that being siad the guys that have tuned their Cruzes have also seen about a mile and a half increase in gas mileage.

Of course you also get 30-40 more hp and also about 40 more foot pounds of torque. If you get an automatic then the shift points are smoothed out and shifts better throughout the entire range.

The governor is removed as well as the rev limiter.

Just saying :D

Memphis, this does not apply to the Sonic...you can not get an auto tranny with the 1.4T

Yes, the trifecta tune is only for the 1.4T, there is no tune for the 1.8NA...it would not make much difference.
The main point is increasing the turbo boost, which then requires 91 octane gasoline.
I think we are saying the same thing on whether or not the 1.4T can get a tune?

Based on articles posted on this forum and the sonic order options, I said you can not get the 1.4T with an auto, BUT sounds like you have some new info about a mid-year change.

Please post up your article or source for this new info, I'd like to read up some more.

Actually there is a tune for the 1.8L N/A. Not worth it though for the money.

Ill see if I can find the article-s that said there would be an option. I know Motortrend said that there was an option to select a six speed auto in their reviews. Ill have to find the ones Im talking about though :p

I cant find the article :p I know the motortrend and autoguide article stating that there would be an option for the 6speed auto are on here but that was before they got their facts straight.

I swear there is one but I could just be remembering a post someone had or something.

Sorry for not being clear, I was talking about Trifecta Performance that others have mentioned on this forum, they only have a tune for the 1.4T.

Maybe you were talking about a different tuning shop for the 1.8NA? A tuner shop with a dyno could do a custom tune$$$.
But we both agree it would not be worth it on the 1.8NA engine, maybe a few hp's...
