Help With Wiring For Push Button Ignition Switch?

Okay, here's the situation. The trim around the cigarette lighter in the center console was broken, so the jack just sat in the hole loosely. You could literally just lift it and the wiring to it out of place. No big deal though, I thought, it just gives me an excuse to put in a push button start. So last night I pulled the center console, drilled out the hole some, and installed the push button. Unfortunately, by the time I got everything back in the car it was to dark to hook up the wiring, and I had to put that off until today...

This is where I ran into a bit of a problem. I pulled the trim under the steering wheel, and started testing the wires. I was trying to find the ignition wire, but ended up getting nowhere. I tested every wire and none of them changed voltage while turning the key? This is how I found the ignition wire on my Eclipse, so I assume I can't find it because of the remote starter...

Anyways, I figured I'd check here to see if anyone knows which wire is the ignition wire. I've searched online for a wiring diagram for the ignition switch, but can't find anything. I also searched the forum, but still no luck. So, I'm grateful for any and all input!

You sure your tester is working properly? I had a blown bulb in mine testing something else out and was like WTF lol.

Yeah, I had no problem finding my secondary accessory wire to tap into for the switche's led. I'm also pretty sure I have the right hot wire that connects to the ignition wire. I just can't find the one for the ignition.

I wasn't even aware that was an option. Well this could turn out to be a much bigger hassle than I had assumed...

I would assume computer control, based on how you don't need to hold the key in the crank position to start the car. If anyone hasn't noticed, just a quick rotate of the key will make the car crank for however long is required, and will not let the starter engage if already running.

Regardless, the ignition switch still must send a signal to the computer to make this happen. I don't know if it is a pulse/digital signal like the door locks and windows though.

I don't know how I missed this, but I'm sure this will help some... I don't remember seeing a purple/black wire anywhere behind the wheel were I tested, so I'll try testing at the plug later today. Hopefully I can locate the wires I need...

I don't think I would have ever noticed that. Even if it is computer controlled, wouldn't I still be able to see the signal on my meter though?

notice it says at the BCM plug.

meaning the computer is controlling it.

i would be very careful messing with those wires, I hope that Sonic007 stops by this thread, im sure he could help you out if needed.He is the one that is into all this stuff.

Unfortunately, yes lol... I noticed that, but I can't do any harm just testing. I don't plan to tap them until I'm 100% sure I've found the wires I need. Even then, I may wait for someone confirm I have the right wires, just to play it extra safe!
