Hood lift

Would it be possible to use the lift gate lift cylinders on the hood to eliminate using the manual stand thing. I feel like this would work, although i dont have a hatch so i dont know the length of them when fully opened. Any input on this?

Its early, i'm drawing blanks for the actual terms of some things, forgive me.

It is from a company called Redline that makes aftermarket hood strut kits for vehicles that didn't come with them. They are fitting a demo set on a Sonic then they will have their kits out for purchase and it will be designed specifically for a Sonic and not a generic kit.

The old prop rod is very reliable. I had one on my Mazda 626 and it never failed in 12 years/340k miles. The gas struts require periodic replacement about every 5 years.

you know what...im just scrolling around and seen this.. taking the hydraulics from the hatch and using them on the hood... dude. i tried for so long. so long. like an entire weeks vacation trying to sort it out. i know the redline ones are out and thats cool but i saw this and just had to say hi and no it doesnt work at all.

You can buy the struts at an auto parts store I'm sure. But the mounting hardware .... the redline set is all there for you. I love mine.

Well i'm glad atleast someone tried it out! Thanks for letting me know. The redline ones are nice but arent worth the 100$ imo, even though i bought them ha. I would say 50 is a good price, if anyone questioning getting them reads this, i would wait until they go down in price.

i tried 2 pairs of struts from autozone with different lengths and lift weights. i also took the mounts off the liftgate because they had the ball mounts. and i tried those struts. drilled holes in my fender and in my hood... dremel out a slot of my hood to get a wrench inside the reinforcement of the hood and bolt on the bracket. i slotted my wiper cowl out to make room for a different mouting style. i tried the firewall single long hydraulic as well like on the new traverse(my dad has one...stole the idea) all of them fail...hella close almost good on everything but minor fail on all of them..

i tried valiantly but redline will be getting 100$ from me on this one.
