I don't think anyone has run just the O.E.M. muffler so its hard really judge how well it would muffle an otherwise straight piped exhaust or how it would affect drone..
I will say this it is rather quiet but audible with just the stock resonator. It is impossible to hear the exhaust with the muffler which indicates it is really quiet..

Criteria specifying what you believe to be "good" would be helpful.
(As in it is a muffler, does it effectively muffle sound? Yes)

There are plenty of exhaust threads here.
It's pretty much a consensus - like every other bone-stock, non-performance oriented model on the planet, there are gains to be had by replacing the exhaust with a less restrictive one.

Resonator takes away drone. Take out the resonator and keep the muffler and you will have drone. It is not that drone is loud, it often is not, it is that drone is wearing. A fifty mile trip w/ drone will seem like a five hundred when done. The Sonic muffler on the 1.4T is very effective at reducing any hint of exhaust sound that the turbo system itself has not removed.

If I do exhaust, it would be a mandrel bent turbo-back 2.25" exhaust with one 18" resonator and one turbo-style muffler. Best compromise between performance and sound imo.
Chambered mufflers are designed for exhaust pulses. A turbocharged engine removes all pulses from the exhaust, creating a steady swirled stream of exhaust. The chambered exhaust becomes a greater restriction because of this. Also turbo-style is much quieter than a chambered style.

oem muffler w/o resonator will have VERY minimal drone if any at all. It'll have a little resonating 0ooooooo sound when the car is idling, and there might be a teeeny bit of drone if your going up a hill slowly in 6th gear, but otherwise, you rarely ever hear it. Overall, resonator delete alone will not make much of a sound or performance difference IMO.

I just chopped off & threw away my stock muffler/piping. All I kept was the resonator (which now has an angled tip welded on it), which is really all you need anyways. I currently run with my second cat open, boy is it super loud & drones alot now! I was curious about this setup so I went ahead & done it, it's cool but it seems less peppy at lower speeds to me now. I'll see what happens when I finally do put my res back on later, I absolutely love how it idles now though, very rumbly! If you want more performance & sound, getting rid of everything after the res will do the trick, mufflers on turbo cars is overkill imho.

Imo just the resonator is perfect. There's no more annoying cabin drone. It's gets pretty loud at wot, but normal driving it ain't bad at all. I love how it still has a faint rumble at idle though. All that stock skinnyass piping & fugly muffler is unnecessary, unless you like a super quiet car, so it looks good imho. Do it, if you want a 'lil noise then what are you waiting for, sure glad I finally did mine. Should have come from the factory like this, turbo cars are supposed to sound aggressive & mean anyways!

Just cut mine off, and ran a two foot 1.75" pipe straight back with a tip to get it completely from under the car. Nice deep tone with no drone due to the extension. I ran it around the block without the extension with still very little drone. The car seems to shift a little later at cruising speed (I probably lost a hair of low end, but very little) but it has a little more pep up top.
An easy mod until I can swing the DDM catback, which I plan to do resonator without a muffler now that I know the sound is nice and deep.

It's in my build thread, basically you cutoff the stock air box and slap on a filter using the stock MAF housing. Here is a thread about it LOL, warranty. Airbox/Intake mod
