How much space is behind factory headunit?

i am looking to getting a better sound system. and i hear the problem is the factory head unit isnt putting out enough amps/watts's or whatever. and i would like to install a Alpine power pack behind the head unit but is their enough room? and does the factory unit have pre-amp outputs? and any other suggestions on what i could do? not trying to spend alot of money. 2012 1.4t hatch. LT

Kicker has a "Sound Stage" upgrade that comes with a small amp and a powered subwoofer as a kit, if the stock speakers where maxed out kicker would have indicated that you would need new speakers with the kick. 2012 Sonic Audio Kicker Audio Upgrade Includes 200-Watt Subwoofer an - 19119147 - Electronics - Sonic Once I am done with my motor mods (down pipe is the last thing..), I'm moving to exterior and then stereo. I plan on going with the Kicker kit and then down the road swaping in better speakers.

Ironhorse, no clue about the space behind the head unit, but, I am sure there are no RCA/pre-amp outputs on the stock head unit.

I believe the correct term for how much space is "not dick."

This dash is one of the tightest I've worked on in quite a long while.

There is no room. Especially if your using the metra kit, there is alot of **** to wire in that kit

There is alot of room down behind the air condition controls though. Just have to keep it away from any moving parts. Also under the dash. Just run your wires up. Ive done a few of them.

Pushing more watts to speakers that are peaked is useless!

I installed a Rockford Fosgate Punch 300 Watt Amp and the factory speakers are louder and sound better than the matching Punch speakers I got from Fosgate. How long that will last I don't know but that I'm super pleased with that little inexpensive amp. It's been months and months with no distortion from the stock speakers yet. I don't rag on it though. If it starts clipping, I turn it down but it's plenty loud for me.

No on the pre-amp outputs. ...but there is room to run a cable out to whatever. Because there was no room I made a harness to install remotely. ...and I got bored and made a video where the stock unit is removed and put back in if that helps. Lots of people ask questions about this stuff.
