how strong is the electrical system?

i want to do a 1000W rockford sub amp on 2 ohms. will my stock battery and alternator be ok? or should i do a capacitor and be safe? and feed back will help thanks. i really dont want todo a capacitor if i dont 100% need it (2012 1.4t)

Is the 1000W peak or RMS? You could probably do 300W RMS. You would need to work out the math depending on what the stock alternator puts out. I've personally run 200W RMS on stock stuff, and have known others who pushed 350W RMS on their stock power, but each car is different as you seem to already be aware.

750RMS :/ i had a 500rms amp on my 2003 hyundai and that was fine...

I would just try it. Make sure you run at least 4 gauge. Get a good ground. Maybe do the big 3 on the front grounds in the engine bay. Worst case you lights will dim. Then a good cap will be needed.

No your not going anywhere near that. That would need way more power to mess up. Thats what fuses are for. It would blow them before it hurt anything. That is worst case. My chevy malibu had 2500 rms with not even a light flicker. Thats a bigger battery and alternator stck though.

Im running a 800watt rms setup know with a double din dvd receiver. Everything works great

Honestly I wouldn't worry until you're hitting 1500+ watts. I'm not sure how much the stock battery/alternator can handle, but they're usually pretty good.

All my previous Saturn's and my Cobalt have good electrical systems. The most I've run is 600W RMS, but I know each of my cars could take a lot more. There were plenty of Saturn owners running more on stock alternator, upgrading was only needed past 1-2k watts. There are a number of Cobalt people running massive systems and don't have any issues.

The obvious thing would be, just don't run a system too long on battery only. But that's common sense.
